Guys, My stock radio set up isn't cutting it. I just purchased four Sony XS-MP1620B speakers. Two to replace the garbage Clarion speakers that have no sound and two to be installed so I have a total of four.

I need to find a suitable location for the two extra speakers in my Utopia. I am thinking about the locations indicated in the attached photo. Thoughts?

Joel,

I got four of these Sonys brand new for $87 to my door.....I couldnt refuse. :-)

The side bulkheads are the stock locations for two existing speakers. These will be replaced with two of the four speakers.

I think the rear speaker location will look awesome and not only give you a good sound while cruising but look nice and custom..

Timmy,

I just removed the stock Clarions and replaced them with Sony XS-MP1620B speakers and the sound quality is night and day. I cannot believe the sound I get now with just two speakers. I hope to have the second pair installed by Sunday.

I attached some pictures of the old Clarions. To be honest, they aren't even worth the cost of shipping as they are in such bad condition. No wonder why they produced such horrible sound. If you must have them I'll send 'em but to be honest they just belong in the garbage.

Craig

Rite-on...thanx, boss.

Not, just a ounce of somewhat good quality left.....alright, TOSS'EM.., appreciate the honesty, chief.

Tell me how it sounds with the additional speakers

Craig,

You can pull the tubs from under the rear mats and get to that space. Really easy to do after you remove the cushion. I was surprise to see the fit and finish of these boats are not that impressive. You would think given the retail price of these boats that it would be better. :ack:

Was it pretty easy to replace the original speakers? We are taking it in next week to have the satelite tuner installed. Wife is vetoing any addition of any audio system...for now;) Maybe after we get it out on the water and she actually hears it...

She actually love those picture of your boat next to the Sea Ray. By the way, what is the name of the Sea Ray. We saw "UN-DU....?" Did you name your Utopia?

The location would look very nice, but the sound would be off. Try to set up a location in the sides (near the front), but higher, that way the sound is near ear level.

Speaker location modified

Jim,

Last night I scoped out the location under the rear bench with the storage bins in place and then removed. My new sonys will not have enough clearance in the location I selected as they will contact the storage bins.

I studied other potential locations and none worked for me so I went back to the area under the rear bench and discover the center area of the fiberglass bulkhead contours outward providing additional clearance so I decided this is where the speakers will go. I understand I'm not getting optimal performance due to location being low to floor but there just arent too many choice spots on the Utopia 205 for more speakers. Hope to have pictures to share by Sunday night of the final installation.

I also agree about alot of the fit and finish Jim. Be careful when working inside any unfinished spaces on your boat. I've gotten countless fiberglass splinters.

Finally, the big Searays name is Exodus.

Rear speakers installed!!!

Got the rear Sonys installed tonight. Overall I'm real happy. I originally wanted to install them farther to the sides as indicated in the original photo I posted in this thread but since these sonys were too deep and were going to contact the storage bin under the bench seats I had to improvise and install them on the bulged protrusion. I think it actually looks more trick like this and my son and I agree it looks like some kind of intake for the jet drives :reddevil:

Then a toast from Wisconsin

Here is a toast of Wisconsin Spotted Cow beer!!!

I don't know if I have the gut to do it....

Those are the ones I put in my speedster! I got 2 pairs. That's not a bad price considering free shiping. Awesome speakers!

Dan,

They sound awesome! I was worried they wouldnt sound good considering they rear pair are mounted low and close together but the angle they are aimed at is effective. I'm usually nuerotic and never satisfied with my projects but this one came out kick butt!
