Hi, '97 GSX manual calls for NGK BR8ES spark plugs, prior owner used SF406C. The two seem to be compatible but the BR8ES is a standard electrode, the SF406C is a V style electrode. Are there pros/cons to one vs the other or should I just replace with the ones speced by the manual? Current plugs (SF406) are black/oily/sooty. Thanks

The BR8ES plugs are like a buck fifty each. Not sure how much the other ones are, but most likely more. At this price, I tend to buy 6 or 8 at a time, because they WILL foul whatever brand and number they are, and I will be using them for a relatively short period of time then throwing them away.

Besides, they are speced by the manual. So, use the ones you have until they are dead, and buy a handful of the BR8ES plugs to swap in from then on.
