Spark Plugs COATED with OIL

My 1995 XP acts like it has a weak battery, after 2 to 3 cranks it acts dead.

But after some investigating, it looks like the front spark plug is getting coated with oil. The back cylindar is only a little wet. Apparently all of the oil is keeping the engine from being able to turn over and compress all of that oil.

What is allowing all of the oil at one time to come in?

Rotary seals....

You have a worm gear attached to the middle of your crankshaft. It's what drives your rotary valve. The worm gear is maintained in an oil bath chamber, which is seperated from your pistons by a set of seals on around the crank. When these seals start to go bad, they can drain so much oil into the combustion side of the engine, that the engine won't start.

It can get so bad, that the engine won't turn over because you can't compress the liquid.

pull plugs, ground plug wires on the grounding lugs, open throttle wide, and spin the motor. you will blow it out. don't be looking down a plug hole when you hit the go button. in fact, lay a rag over top of head. those seals had all winter to weep oil. the fact that they did doesn't mean you need an engine rebuild. it is gonna smoke like you won't believe for a good ten minutes when it starts. probably foul a plug or two. no biggy. smoke means your engine is getting enough oil.

It looks as though you both were correct. I finally got it to crank and it did smoke! Now time to button it back up and hit the water and let the smoke roll...
