I have a 2001 GTX RFI 787, there is no grounding plate to connect the plug wires to when running compression test or needing to crank with out plugs hooked up. I read somewhere that not connecting the wires to a plate can damage the coil.

Feedback?

The grounding plate was on engines smaller than 787, the spark plug "grounds" on later model ski's are not actually grounds, just a place so there won't be a spark discharge that could ignite gas vapors. Personally for safety reasons I have never understood why the posts are not grounded.

Lou,
it looks lile a plate that has some extra non functional plastic in the oem parts lookup online as well as them maintenance section in th pdf manuals. I was just gioing to cut out a plate and wanted to make sure it is ok just to ground both plug wire to engine.
