hey whatsup yall. out riding my 97 gti on clear lake on labor day last weekend. there was lots of weeds in the water that i was sucking up all day. had to constantly pull weeds out of it which sucked. it ran well all day but at the end of the day it started to have no acceleration power. it starts right up and idles fine but when i give it gas the motor just revs up and it dosent go. the engine temp on the gauge was at 77 all day even at the end. when i pulled it out of the water i noticed that the cone piece at the end of the jet had practically melted off. fixed the cone piece but still dosent go. i dont really know much about these things so any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

you refilled up the cone w/ oil right?,..just ask'n....check the clearance of the wear ring and edge of impellor blade, no more than 1mm...

If the cone was melted than it sounds like you have a jet pump bearing and seal problem.Do you have a seadoo shop manual? If not here’s an idea for you. You could join as a "premium member". As a premium member you can down load a authentic seadoo manual from the seadoo manual library. In the library is a variety of manuals for almost all years and models. You can view as many as you like on line as a PDF file, or download it and print it for your personal and private use. There are operator manuals and repair manuals for you to do your own repairs on your seadoo. The repair manuals have everything from troubleshooting, repair procedures to winterizing. It contains wire diagrams torque specs and pictures for disassemble and assemble instructions. In the spec sheets it tells everything needed to maintain oil changes, spark plug gaps, carburetor rebuilds and impeller wear ring tolerances. Click on the "Seadoo Manuals" link at the top of the page for more details. If you need any help or get in a jam, we are always here to answer your questions too. Premium members get priority when it comes to getting quick detailed answers.

took the pump off. is there a pump rebuild kit with the bearings and everything that i need to rebuild it? once i pull the impeller out is it pretty easy to do. i hear theres a "speacial tool" i need. ya i think im going to become a premium member to get the manual. thanks for your guys's replys.

I did mine....

I did my bearings with no special tools but the impeller removal tool. You have to be a bit of a mechanic to do it.......being a Mcgyver helps a lot. I used to different size sockets to punch them out. When you put them back in, they have a specific measurement they have to be set at........

most 97 gti s have a plastic pump with aluminum centers, everyone i have ever done that got hot enough to melt the cone had distorted and or warped the center section, so i would check it real close before you purchase the parts to fix it.

Jet pumps.......

The SP, GS and GSI were the only models made in 1997 that were made in one piece, that was entirely plastic and aluminum center.

All other models, including the GTI were made of a plastic housing and bronsze stator, which offered greater strength and endurance. The nozzle was made of plastic or aluminum, depending on which model you have.

If you got the pump so hot that it melted the cone, then like Scot said, I'd still be very careful and check to ensure the integrity of the pump hasn't been compromised.
