my 09 speedster 150 makes a whirring sound whenever i drive full throttle and jump a wave. there is a loss of power so i just pull the throttle back and it goes back to normal. Also, when i start the boat the maintenance light comes on. So im thinking i might have a loose belt or something? please help me.

sounds like your supercharger is slipping...(no belt inside) do you know how many hours are on the boat?? Also, damage to the supercharger will occur when un-hooking (coming out of the water and over revving) so try not to do that!!

im with him...sounds like your supercharger is what you are hearing. It is really bad for them to be spinning max rpm when you jump the waves, that sudden landing and load on the engine is very bad. You need to pull back on the throttle when you are out of the water.

the speedster 150 is darn near impossible to keep glued to the water when going full throttle, at least on my lake. and wow, my supercharger made it 162 hours. I guess its time for a rebuild. but are you guys almost positive its the super charger? Because when i hear this noise there is almost a total loss of power, and the boat rattles.

That noise and rattle means get if rebuilt ASAP otherwise you will have a nice 255HP boat anchor on your hands. Superchargers have to be rebuilt at 100 hr MAX...you are playing with fire if you continue to use it!!

hmmmm i asked my dad and he said he thought it got a rebuild at 100 hours but it costed $300 and i told him that any dealer would probably be charging $1000. I'll just take it to a dealer and see what they think, but its probably the SC. Thanks for the help

ok, sorry to bring the thread back up, but are you guys pretty sure its the SC? its in the shop right now and they are being INCREDIBLY slow. Its already been more than a week, and i'm leaving in a week. They say they haven't even ordered the parts yet. Anyways i needed to take the boat to a friends house on the lake for dinner. On the way back it was so bad to the point i couldn't add any gas or it would make un unpleasant noise and rattle. Is there any damage done to the engine?

The day after my 10 hour service my supercharger let go....ceramic thrust washers 'thrusted' I drove it back to our marina making all kinds of noises, didn't really care, new motor and supercharger were on them. New blower, new motor. No problems since. Good Luck!
