Ok a couple weeks ago i took my boat the the dealer and had a new wear ring putin (wear ring was worn out do to normal wear and tear) got the boat back and i didnt ever use a whole tank of gas and the impeller has chewed the wear ring right out of it. The dealer looked at it today and are now saying that the pump is warped and may need a new one. I asked how it could get warped and they told me from sucking up stones and or a stick witch blows my mind cause the impeller is in like new condition no nicks out of it at all also im very carefull not to drive it in shallow water. has anyone ever heard of a problem like this? thanks in advance to anyone that can help me with this problem, I have a feeling the dealer messed something up when they put the ring in and dont want to owen up and take resposibility for it i have about 3hr on the boat since the repair.

Hey joel. Sorry bout your problem. If your impeller looks good and clean, no nics dings folds, or anything else then they might have done something to it. It is possible that the pump shaft was already bent a little and you didn't really notice because of your old wear ring being so worn out the impeller was not hitting it.
Your model with the 4-tec has a different set up than the older 2 strokes. Different shaft and bearing set up, no thrust washer and bearings to pinch when installing.

the impeller took about 2mm out of the bottom of the wear ring, boat had 70hrs when we got it at the start of this season and im guessing ive put 40+hr maybe more on this season so far with no problems and now all of a sudden the pump is warped, seem strange to me...... Is it possible to mess up the pump alignment when reinstalling the pump and should the alignment be check after its been installed???? My shop manual say to make sure to reistall a shim that could be behind the pump witch my dealer say he's never seem befor and that mine didnt have a shim. But he said that they could maybe shim my *"warped pump"* and try to get it aligned....

Joel I'm not sure on yours but on the typical set up you do not have to remove the actual drive shaft to remove jet pump. Nothing to re-align. Yours could be different. Give me a minute and I'll look at your manual.

I dont think they took the drive shaft out. but i guess theres a shim that goes behind the pump where it bolts to the boat witch i guess is used to align the pump????? at least that what it looks like in my manual...

Hey man. The manual say the pump "could" have a shim for pump alignment with the engine. Also says "some" boats require a shim to align it to reuse the shim if you has been used. So taking from that I would have them shim it to align it, for free. They should have checked all that and they should have known about that if there are dealer mechanics. Hope that helps a little.

I have a polaris 780 slt that had the pump housing rebuilt with new bearings and seals etc. The impeller was rebuilt and reinstalled...took it out and the drive shaft actually spun its way back into the impeller stripping the splines of the shaft and impeller...whole summer was shot...the problem...the shim was installed incorrectly between the hull and the housing...since the shim had a different offset, the pump housing was misalligned...that shim should have been inserted after the pump housing where the jet narrows to change the angle of the exiting water...
is it possible that the shim you speak of might be there installed in the wrong place?

:agree: that what i though thanks for the help, i have a feeling that there going to charge me for all this:(

he said there was no shime behind the pump and that he's NEVER seem on one befor:confused: he also said that he does 150 wear rings a year witch could be true cause they are a large dealer http://www.lockhartsodyssey.ca/shop/index.htm

You got fighting chance. If they are a Seadoo Dealer mechanic then that is something they should know about and check before the job is done. Right now the job isn't complete and it is up to them to complete it. Go in there and smack 'em with your manual. Let us know how it goes.

i will keep you informed... i took it to the dealer and i expected DEALER service so far havent gottin that service, but ive paid a dealer price and dont intend to pay agian with only (at the most 3hr's) on the repair....... if they try to ***** me on this ill make sure i tell everyone i know about my experience dealing with them.

hey joel if yours is a 4tec then we have the same pump setup possibly

i recently had my whole pump apart

there is no alignment on our setups

our bearings look similar the one in this picture

our impeller shafts go right though the middle and thats it, the only way your impeller could have gone sideways is if that bearing has to much lateral play in it, i can not see these pump housings 'warping'

they say its warped for sucking something up witch is a crock of ****, im sure i would know if i suck up something big enough to warp a pump even though they claim i wouldnt know if i sucked up a stick or rock :lols: guess they think im a idiot  , im sure if i sucked something big enough to warp a pump im sure that the drive shaft and impeller would be damaged as well but that not the case there both fine.

ya it sure feels like that...also can you change the wear ring without removing the impeller???? they said they dont remove the impeller to change it but from my understanding its pressed in.

its bolted (2 bolts)and its quite a snug fit, my guy cuts them down the side to get them out

im sure you could do it that way, but id rather do it the right way with the impeller off

ya the shop manual say to cut it out but doesnt look like you can do that with the impeller in... i hope the people at the dealer can be "men" and not the little boys that there making themselves seem like.... and own up to this problem.

being in a similar industry i have seen MANY MANY shops do similar bs

Ya same I work at a dealership im a car mechanice and bodyman, I fix insurance vehicles that have been hit You name it ive seen it and fixed it... I even fix boats, just fixed a four winns 238 vista that if i guess it hit a pilling and put a hole about 5feet long in the port side of the bow

........This is why I'm here!

This is exactly why I'm here. I have watched people my whole life get screwed by auto mechanics, boat mechanics.........you name it. If it means money, they want it.

Not like 30 years ago when the reputation of the company meant something. It doesn't any more. They could care less..........

My post.......no, you can't replace the wearing ring without removing the impeller and shaft. Due to the close tolerances, they have to be removed. And when it's put back together, the hub and bearings need to be re-greased.

Yeah, someones not owning up to something here. Maybe you should take this mechanic the chapter out of the manual for doing this job and show him first hand!..........He screwed it up!..........

if its anything like on a jetski about 2 if that

its about 10 bolts, 2 small ones for linkage, 4 for the nozzle to pump, 4 for pump to hull

Ok thanks alot.... I still dont know what going to happen with all this, dealer just told me they GOTTA put a new pump on it but still waiting for them to tell me what there willing to do.

so the problem ended up being the pump...I had it out today and it did 50 on gps with a strong head wind and a ft+ cope "AND" ft+ of water in the engine bay. came back to the cottage and went to check the oil and the boat was taking on water. in the engine bay there is a small clear hose thats bent in half and hooks to the pump, well it came off and the little zip tie jammed the bilge pump. And the Scary thing is, i was going to to go across the the bay but came back to the cottage cause a wavw hit me and well its a little cold out right now. Does anyone know what that hose is called and what does it do??? look like comes in and right back out and through the nozzal part of the pump?????
