So how much grease in the Seal carrier?

I have replaced my through hull fitting and seal carrier. My manual is vague on how much grease to use in the carrier and at the fly wheel. They mention the "boot" expanding on the zerk fitting on the fly wheel. I understand that one ;however, pump grease until it "oozes" out the engine side. I am assuming that is the zerk fitting in the seal carrier itself. Well I put what I thought was an ample amount. No ooze that I could see. It seems like there would be an end point that you could know when there is enough (ooze?). It seems counterintuitive that a "seal" would allow grease out but not water. What am I missing? I am using a synthetic, waterproof grease from the advance auto. When I fire the boat up for a few seconds, the seal carrier is pretty warm. Normal?

I have wondered the same thing as I pumped alot of grease into and did not see any come out. It may be leaving out the other seal and you can not see it. Mine does not leak. I have read that you are to grease each day and it is normal for the drive shaft to be very hot after use.
