so freaking irratating

sorry this is a bit of a rant

my mom and i took the GTX out to my normal spot, we get there place is PACKED!!!!!, ehh whatever no biggie i see a nice lil shady section of beach for the ski and our chairs, so its all good

our spot has a normal ramp and a beach launch (i prefer the beach launch), well of course the morons at the beach today think its just a normal part of the beach, so what do i do? start backing up right towards their chairs (yeah i know im an ass), ran over a couple sandles etc, and of course people moved their chairs, ok cool skis in the water

there was at least 15+ skis on this small section of beach, with 30+ lil kids in the water, my mind tells me use utmost caution of course, well aparently i was one of the few people THINKING!!!!!! most of the people were half-full throttle from the beach (no wake zone!!!!!)

needless to say i got VERY irratated VERY fast, most of these people seemed to be riding for the first time, had no idea how to handle or operate them properly or safely, one group had a newer 215hp RXT and RXP, i can almost promise the pumps need wear rings and maybe an impeller after all the SAND they processed being started with the grate in the sand!!!!!!!!!!

so after about 10 minutes of watching people ripp in and out of the no wake coming scary close to kids, i went found a LEO, and several people got kicked off the beach....

was i wrong in what i did? what would you have done had you witnessed this chaos

You did the right thing. It seems like for most people all common sense leaves as soon as they get near water. I had one clown last summer just as I was loading my boat (in a no wake zone of course) cut right between my boat and my trailer at half throttle. needless to say he got told off, but unfortunately he could have cared less.

I would love to see ten times the number of water cops around. At least near the launch ramps and beaches.

Good on ya

Aaron:cheers:

Ignorance is no excuse for not being safe...some times a leo is exactly what is needed to bring knowledge and safety to an area. Good call.

Where do you launch from?

south end of anna maria, coquina bayside, small lil beach on the intercoastal, provides great safe spot when the gulf is rough and we need a break from surfing

If more people were safety minded. PWC's wouldn't get such a bad rap. There are way to many people that have no re guard for others on the water. Unfortunately a lot of them are on PWC's.

Karl

Boats are like cars in the way that there are way to many people driving them that have no clue or just no regard for whats going on around them......problem is with a car you need a license a boat does not require a marine license (untill you require a captains) anyways...the problem is there are to many people that just go get it and just by the hair on their butt pass and the entire time they do not know the rules of the road or traffic laws they have just passed because their best freinds told them how to drive without regard to proper laws. Biggest things stupid people will do stupid things.....there are just not enough cops to control the ever growing problems.

I talk to a lot of out of state people that tell me that some states require a Boating License between age 14 and 35... Here in Florida is just for young boaters...I think 14 to 16 required a boaters cert. Unfortunately that age group don't spend big bucks on water craft...or cause the most trouble here in Florida.

sorry I did forget about that here, but for the most part they just let anyone go out, and that can turn bad quick.......just like what was said before the people where flying away from the sand at good throttle while people where swimming.......most will not do that on purpous, however they do it because they DO NOT THINK about something happening, untill it does happen and its to late...... I think this is why with many beaches watercraft cannot come within so many feet of the beach.....I almost bet we are talking about Bradenton Beach here.

Boating laws....

The laws are set by the states.... here in Alabama, you can not drive a PWC or boat until your 12. You can't even let your kid drive your PWC if your sitting on it, him/her in front of you and the safety lanyard connected to you. It's against the law.

You have to be 12 minimu to drive with another licensed person in the boat/PWC. You have to be a minimum of 14 to drive on your own, after you pass the boaters safety course and get your license.

A few years back, I was pulling a kneeboarder and a kid on a big PWC was making a turn, like he was going to jump my wake. He didn't see my rope or the person I was towing. When I saw he was coming into my rope, I pulled off the throttle quickly, the rope dropped in the water as he skidded over it. He had let off the throttle but didn't realize he had no steering.

He had to be all of 12 years old (this was before the laws were passed). Then, I followed him back to the beach and told his dad. His father could have cared less. So, from my view point, safety starts with the parents.

It's like everything else parents do with their children. Every year, we have kids that get shot during hunting season because their parents bought them a gun to go out in the woods to have fun but never taught them gun safety.

You did the right thing by taking the action you did.....

Good ole sayen " there is a time and place for eveything" ...you can ride and act careless if you are away from others ....id love to see to dip shtis run into eachother out on the water cause they they think they have to cut back and forth and splash eachother...

In Canada we all have to have a licence to opperate a PWC or any boat with power, under 13 ft. If you were born in 1983 + you need a licence for ANYTHING! In September this year every boater on the water will have to have a pleasure craft opperators card!

Cris good on you!! If I were you I would have screwed there machine up some how! Find there trailer and take all the air out of the tires could go as cutting there strap on there winch; but a nasty note on the window is always good! I'm with Karl on this one; these people have to cut the crap there wrecking it for all of us!

Cris what is the LEO???

Leo

LEO stands for Law Enforcement Officer, whether it be police, sheriff, Game Warden, Marine Patrol, or whatever (Here in Florida almost a decade ago, they combined the Game Wardens and Marine Patrol which were two separate law enforcment agencies to make the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FFWCC).) I second on retaliating, but really can't because of my job, status, and values. If for some reason I get caught doing it, then I get arrested, cited, or whatever and I lose my Security Clearance which won't allow me to do my job. They aren't worth it, but it makes me boiling mad they can have such disregard for human life and I can't do anything about it except for tell a LEO, which more often than not, ends up in them just having to leave or get a little warning, and the next time they come back out they are doing the same exact thing. SO unfair, I wish I could pop them with some ball bearings from a slingshot. Now we're talking.

Please reply if you know

Taken directly from the Transport Canada safe boating guide.

underage operation of a personal watercraft is a 100.00 fine. Operating a power driven pleasure craft without the required pleasure craft operator card 250.00 fine

So he would end up with a 350.00 fine, and multiple infractions may also result in the PWC being impounded. Unfortunately for your son, he must wait another year before using the ski. Look at it this way, would you lend him the car without a license?

There may be other fines as well. For a complete list check out www.boatingsafety.gc.ca

As with anything, Motorcycles, Boats, Jetskis, Etc comes common sense and duty to be responsible. Idiots who aren't responsible need to be held liable for the actions because they ruin it for the rest us who do ride responsibly

Texas is similar. You can not drive a PWC or boat unless you are 13. Under 18 and you have to take a Boater Safety course. If under 13 or 18 w/o course certification, I've seen the parents get the ticket from the Game Warden. I think that's fair. Parents should be more responsible for their spawn's actions.

Texas Game Wardens are cracking down a little harder on the drinking thing while driving a boat. This is a good thing.

With having a kid on the water, you tend to become a lot more aware of all the other crazies out there. Makes you a lot more responsible (assuming you pay attention to that sort of thing).

There's a jetski rental over by the Seafood Shack and newbies ride in that general area. That may explain the amount of ignorant riders you see there!
