I have a 1997 Seadoo GTX that ran fine last season. At the end of the season I went to winterize the ski and it would not run, so I decided to wait till this spring to fix the ski.
The problem is definitely electrical and very confusing. I started by attaching the lanyard to the post. Two short beeps and it cranked but would not start. Able to crank two more times. On the third crank, it stopped after about a second and emitted a long beep(as if the lanyard was not present or wrong lanyard). Tried a few more times with same result.. short start attempt then long beep. Then, nothing.... no beeping, no gauges, no attempt to start.
Removed battery and re-installed battery... back to short attempts and long beep. Ran the DESS test (pressed start button 5 times without the lanyard), placed the lanyard on the post and hit start.. two short beeps(indicating a lanyard/post problem). All above steps were attempted with both the main lanyard and the backup that also works with this ski.
Tested the post according to the service manual, all ohms reading about 0.3, so the post is good. Tested the start button for a short, also reads around 0.3 ohms when engaged, so the start button is good. I am able to jump the started selanoid using a screwdriver across the post and the ski cranks, so the starting system is fine.
All attempts were also made with two seperate batteries (one had 12.4volts, the other was at 12.8volts) and I had the batteries load tested. Each battery read about 365 CCA (rated at 265... Odyssess PC-625), so the batteries are good.
Can you see why I am confused? I believe it is a bad power cable or a bad MAAP/MPEM. Any other ideas or things I can test to narrow down the problem? Where can I get a new MAAP/MPEM the ski at a good price? Can I use the MAAP/MPEM from any other year or model? I always fix my own toys so please help me avoid taking it to a shop, my ego cant take it...
I appreciate any help you can give me... thanks.
