I,ve just recently purchased my first ski,its a 04 gti but i've noticed a lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust and i,m just wondering could it be getting to much oil so its not mixing properly any help would be much appreciated.

Hey Ronan. Do you premix the gas or use the oil injection system from the oil tank?

A little bit of smoke when first starting is pretty normal but should clear up. Might come back just a little when idling.

If your premixing the gas make sure you go 40:1.

If you are using the system make sure your pump disk is properly aligned so that you are not pumping too much oil.

Hi and thanks for the quick reply,i use the oil injection system, wonder would this cause it,hope its not serious

smoking?........

Ronan, there are a couple things that could cause you to smoke. Are you using a lot of oil from your injection tank? Do your spark plugs foul out? How do they look? Are they showing signs of heavy oil use?

What type oil are you using. You must be using a non NMMA, non TCW-3 oil with low ash. I use the QuickSilver brand of full synthetic. I buy it by the gallon for price. I don't have the luxory of driving 2 hours when I need oil and Walmart stokes this oil.

The two things you need to be concerned with is one, the oil injection pump isn't set correctly and two, the possiblility of your rotary seals around the crank, that seal your rotary chamber.

On the oil VROI pump, you need to get a mirror and look at the injection pump and see that it's in proper alingment to your carb. One of the ways they suggest testing this is to start the motor, then hold the oil pump lever wide open. This will cause the ski to smoke bad, letting you know if works.

On the rotary seals, you can remove the carb and oil lines from your oil tank and design a block off for this chamber. Use a hand pump and a gage and pump it up to 5 psi. If the seals are good, it will hold that pressure for 5 minutes...................

thanks for the reply, how do i adjust the oil injection pump,i'm new to this so i needall the help.

This is true....

Having a mirror is par for the course if your gonna be working on engines.

When you adjust the oil pump, you will need to back off on the idle stop screw first. You'll need to look closely and back off the idle stop screw until it no longer makes contact with the lever on the throttle lever assembly. Then, adjust the oil injection pump as directed above. After the adjustments have been made, turn the idle stop screw in 2 full turns. This should set your oil pump and put your idle back to 3k idle while out of the water and 1,5k while floating..............
