98 sportster. Smokes like a lumber yard on fire untill i open her up for about 45 seconds then clean. I use boat about every two weeks so i assume fuel builds up somwhere. Is this to be expected or is there something i can do to improve this. happy fathers day to all the Dads out there.

chances are... the center crank seals are leaking a little. That lets oil into the engine, from the RV cavity. Not a big deal, other than the smoke. If the seal lets go all together... then it can keep the engine from starting. (hydro-lock with oil)

My 1999 Speedster with twin 787 Rotax is acting strange as well. I crank the left and it smokes really bad, and it will go to full throttle
up to 7000 RPM then goes to 4500 and sticks there. Another thing is the smoke from the LEFT engine is choking out the right, and on top of that water is getting in the engine compartment from some where..I don't think any of the rear seals or scupper valves. Added note is the LEFT engine the one smoking looks wet when I open the engine compartment, and the right engine seems to be dry in comparison. I rebuilt carbs and cleaned RAVE valves, so my first thought is the oil pump on LEFT engine may be loose and at FULL pressure putting an excess amount of oil in the LEFT engine. Really hope this is not leaking crankshaft or head gasket .....Any ideas are appreciated!!

Well on portside engine ( L ) i fixed leaking RAVE bellow, re-cleaned valve, put in new NGK plugs, fixed a loose connection from exhaust to silencer, cleaned the RAVE looking water valve on muffler, and fixed fuel float on pickup unit in fuel tank. Hopefully this cured my problems as of now. Hopefully can get to lake early and set throttle idle on starboard engine, and see the results of my full 10 hour day of maint. work on the speedster!
