Hi everyone, first time on here for me and I have a smoking 1997 Seadoo Speedster, what do I do first? Someone to told me to put in smokeless racing oil and I did that, had to siphon out the existing oil which took over 2 hours and only got down to one or two inches of oil left in tank.
Put in 1 gallon of Evinrude Synthetic XD100 racing oil and went boating. Still alot of smoke, it's very embarrassing going through channels or no-wake and at startup at the dock. No accelleration problems, though. Probably just a dirty carb but not sure where to start.

Thanks for any help you can give,
Steve

Welcome to the seadoo forum Steve. You can't just add any oil you want to the seadoo. Here is what seadoo recommends.

Use High quality low ASH API TC Injector oil.
Do Not use NMMA TC-W, TC-W2 or TC-W3 outboard motor oils or other ash less type 2 cycle oil. Avoid mixing different brands of API TC oil as resulting chemical reaction will cause severe engine damage. Never mix Mineral or synthetics oil together.

Never use fuel containing more than 10 % alcohol,( Methanol or Ethanol) as severe damage will occur. The minimum of 87 octane is recommended for most engines.

Check your Oil Injector pump for sync.;

Turn the cable adjustment screw to align the marks on the Injector pump. Look closely and you’ll see the marks on the cable disk and the pump. Use a mirror if necessary. The throttle and oil injector must be synchronized to react at the same time. This adjustment is the same on single or dual carb models.

Let me know if this helps out.

Karl,
Thanks for the response. I also thought that putting a different brand of oil would not be the thing to do but my normal mechanic said it should be fine. Maybe I need a new mechanic! I put in the Evinrude XD100 direct injection oil. I hope I didn't cause any additional problems.

I'm fairly new to fixing this Seadoo so where is the oil injection pump?

The pump is on the front of the Engine. In front of the Magneto cover...or "Mag" side of the engine. The rear of the engine is referred to as the "PTO" as it is near the" Power Take Off", or where the jet pump shaft is.
Check the oil container to see if the oil is in "SPEC " of what seadoo recommended. If not, I would run the correct oil...If you mechanic is a seadoo mechanic keep him if not...look around. Seadoo's are a different animal. Would you bring you lawn mower to a car dealer to have it repaired?

What is the easiest way to drain the oil from this boat? I originally siphoned it out of the oil tank with a hand siphon going through the regular fill hole.

When you say, "SPEC", you mean check the specification that is in the manual compared to what is on the oil container, right?

I normally do most of my own maintenance, this mechanic used to work at the local PWC dealer and does a good job of winterizing my boat.
