I Smell Gas all the time after uncovering the boat, no fuel that i can see in bilge, why?

OK I'M starting to pick on some the small stuff in my boat: Every time I take the cover off of lift the back storage lid I get a strong odor of gas why? The gas is turned off.

I have a questions on that to; sometimes I forget to turn on the gas valve but I’m still able to get the boat started and actually go 1 to 5 mph through the wake zone, its only when I try to go faster that I get sputtering and stalling. My Question is, is this normal or do I need to replace the fuel shut off valve?

100% normal.

You have an open vent'ed fuel system... and the screens in the airbox get wet with fuel. This is why there is a bilge fan. To get the fumes out, after sitting, and to keep you from blowing up.

I am storing the boat inside my garage now and working on it. Is it going to be a problem if I go on vacation for 2 weeks?
