Yes, you can bolt the wires of the SMARTCRAFT FUEL/PADDLE WHEEL/OIL BOAT 859743T 03 on top, cleaned the already installed wires since I was already there. I did not change my analog gauge. Before I bought the smartcraft I filled the boat 10 gallons at a time and found that with the analog gauge past full was full, Full was ¾, ¾ was half and half was ¼ or 10 gallons left. When I hooked up the smartcraft it was the same. As I said the smartcraft was very accurate. As for the scrolling, you are not going through gas that quickly so I would look at the analog and when it said ¾ tank I would check the smartcraft to make sure I was around 20 gallons.
I wish I still had my boat to just go out and tell you but I also remember that what to do with the ground wire made me read even more, I am pretty sure I just connected it because there were only two wires and the tank was not grounded other than at the gauge (if my memory serves me)
As for setting the system up, once I decided that I was going to only use that single monitor I researched that I did not HAVE to have the junction box or caps I just needs a single cable (read also as less money) with terminal resistors on both ends (84-879982T20). The short cable that comes with the gauge is useless unless you have a junction box, WHICH is only needed if you have a network for more than one gauge. Go with the single cable then get the SMARTCRAFT FUEL/PADDLE WHEEL/OIL BOAT 859743T 03.
