Ski Pylon a Must for Wakeboarding?

Just got my 2 new GTI SE 155hp and I don't feel like spending roughly $500 to get this accomplished. Pylon costs around $280 plus 2 hours labor at my local service shop $110 is the hourly rate.

I did ask the tech doing the walk through if I could wakeboard without the pylon and he stated that you would fall a lot due to quick movement on ski.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

I wakeboard behind a 96 XP and 97 Challenger, with the rope attached to the hook down by the pee hole.

I have never fallen, yet (I will now that I have said this...:ack:)

Of course the shop will tell you that you cannot wake behind it without adding the $500 worth of parts and labor. I wonder WHY they would say that...

Yeah, my first post!

This Sea-Doo business I'm still learning but the wakeboarding I know so....

The purpose of a plyon or tower is to give you a higher pull point. The higher the pull point the easier it is to get out of the water, and the less resistance you'll feel the higher you jump. That said, you can still wakeboard with the rope attached to the lowest point on any sea doo or boat. the only time you'll really notice anything is if you have a fairly decent jump, you'll notice once you get to a certain height the rope starts pulling you down, counter acting your jumping up motion, causing you to lean forward slightly. Easy to correct and you should be able to land without wiping out.

Yeah, I agree totally. It is VERY difficult to get any air on a wakeboard behind a seadoo anchored to the low hook. That and the fact that most seadoos put out very little wake giving you hardly anything to launch from...

Welcome to the forum, Gibson!

I was going to order and install this part by myself.. The question I have is, "is there any risk of stress to the hull of the machine". I have the 2008 GTX 215, and think all you do is replace that low i-hook with the new pylon. Is this a no drill set up or is there more to the install ?
