Ski Pole

Ok, well I figured part of it out today. There is a set screw about middle ways down inside the engine compartment. I loosened it and was bale to pull the pole out. According to my owners manual it says to turn the top knob clockwise to lock into place and then slide another pole over this one. One, the boat doesn't have the other pole, two when I turn the knob it doesn't tighten. Anyone have any suggestions? Is mine broken or is there something that I am not doing correctly?

I am unfamilar with this design but if you take a look at the exploded view you might find a solution. My poll is two piece and just pops up and has a semi locking device that isn't more than a clip. Though I think I worked on a boat like this a couple years ago, I don't think I noticed the pole.:cheers:

Finally got around to taking a couple of pictures this afternoon.
This pic is shows the set screw(?) in the engine compartment. There is an allen head on the screw.
This is fully raised. It has some play in it, not a lot but it does have some. It does not go back down easily. Takes some pushing. Turning the top knob does not seem to make a difference.
There is a plastic ring/seal? around the black pole.

It appears I should have 2 poles. Number 1 and number 7, but I am only seeing one pole. Also on page 53 of my owners manual it says to use 2 poles, plus the poles look different than the pole I have. Has the previous owner replaced the entire assembly? Am I missing a pole? Or, is everything like it should be and I am not understanding?

My 98 looks exactly the same as yours. 1 pole. I don't know what they are referring to. I thought this was normal.
I think it is just a double wall type pole. 1 inside the other.

I am having the same problem... Although, I was able to pull mine completely out. My question is when you spin the knob to the right is that supposed to tighten/condense the rubber sleeve to make it fatter and therefore lodge its self in the tube? If so mine is broken because when I spin the knob the rubber sleeve pivots around in a circle and never condenses. I think it's broken... Anybody?
On mine the rubber knob doesnt do anything. It just spins. i dont think it was desgined to do anything other than spin.

Hey is there a mod tojust make this ski pole much taller, maybe even if you have to reinforce it. Would save a lot over buying a pylon or tower for now anyway.
