Single trim tab between dual jets

I want to add a single trim tab between the jets on my Challenger 1800.
I have seen this setup on competition ski boats, but the prop is in front of the tab.

I photoshopped a tab on my boat so you will understand what I want to do.

Does anyone see any issues?

I don't think this would cause any specific issues that would be a cause of concern.

I do think twin tabs would be more stable as far as left right rotation kind of thing as the single will allow for a pivot point, twins will not.

As above... don't think it will cause an issue. BUT... it may not leave you with a very stable feeling. It may want to skate left or right.

When it's on a prop boat... you are diverting thrust.

I would give up the ability to adjust the left and right rotation.

Here is my thinking correct me if I'm wrong.

Rough Water: The center trim tab would cause some lift, but that would push the bow down, so the hull should keep the boat stable.

Reshape The Wake: The trim tab would not make the wake bigger, but it should reshape it to a higher peak in the middle of the wake.

Cost: the single trim tab would be half the cost of a double trim tab.

I am looking at this finned trim tab which might help with stability.

I have been searching, and I have found a couple of images with the trim tab mounted between the jets,
but I have not been able to find anyone's opinion on how well it works.

I would think the wake would be flatter, not higher. I say this as the boat would ride higher on the water. Because of that, the water behind the boat would not have to fill such a large gap..

Someone here has already done this, there is a thread somewhere and I'm sure they said it worked well.

I was in some rough water yesterday, and I was all over the place. After that experience, I'm going to install two trim tabs; I am just not sure the single trim tab will cut it. I agree with Dr. Honda and Coastiejoe that two would be more stable than one.

Hands down they will. The way they are mounted the keep the hull from slipping left and right where a single would float and slide based on being parallel with the water. Twin tabs will be something like a 30 degree angle to the water. That's a huge difference.

Joe, Thank you for your input

There was another Challenger 1800 on the lake yesterday. I could not believe how he was getting thrown around. The Challenger hull was not designed for rough water, but I sure love sliding on smooth water at 45 mph.

Can't wait to get some tabs to have fun in the chop. Might even take it to Catalina Island 26 miles off shore. They caught one of the biggest Great White Sharks off Catalina 23 Ft long (5 feet longer than my boat).:o

Im still looking for it, a guy on here put one under each pump and they were electric. It reminded me of the place dirvirters on the v8 jet boats

I thought a place dirvirter was the plate under the pump on those v8 boats, wrong its pretty much the same as vts.

I like this guys design. Seems like if you trimmed it all the way up it would not loose any reverse water, if not help reverse work better by directing the flow under the boat. Im not sold on dual vts with seadoo parts or tabs yet but it needs something to make these boats less ill handling, sponsons?

Over-sized sponsons for a Seadoo boat? Now that's a crazy idea. I bought a pair of sponsons from RacerXXX last year for one of my skis. It made it carve in the turns. RacerXXX what do you think of a couple of over-sized sponsons for a Seadoo Boat?

Josh,
My reverse is worthless other than slowing the boat down.

Yeah its almost useless. I held some card board up that i cut out to be about the size of the electric lenco tabs and it looks like if they were mounted in the "normal" place and were lifted all the way up it would help channel the water under the boat to propell it backwards instead of the water bouncing arround in that transom aera

LOL, yeah you are going to cover your drain plug. I know, it photoshopped. But I'm just sayin'

News flash----these are not deep hulls for rough water. I will say this and many may think I'm insane.......you need to just roll with it. You ride on the edge of soiling your drawers. Once you can do that the rocking, listing and edge of death experiences are not really as bad as you think. I always have at least one white knuckle experience on my Speedster each outing. It is what it is, an over grown pwc. Treat it like that and all is good. Get behind a bigger boat and follow it riding in and out of it's wake, parallel the wake. Balance the V on the peak of the wake and then ever so slightly turn and let the boat list down into the bottom of the wake, then back and forth, it almost throws you down and your right arm seems super close to the water. It's a very un-nerving feeling, like you're gonna taste you lunch again feeling. But some how the boat always stays upright. LOL, not kidding.

I'll make what you want, LOL. I prefer to be able to spin my boat......like a big PWC. I get the stable ride thing but I literally just sit in the seat and "jelly out" and move with the boat. One hand on the wheel the other on the throttles. SOOOO much fun

That's the beauty of the electric or hydraulic trim tabs; trim down with the wife on the boat and trim up when its time to get crazy.:D

I guess so, my wife consigned for me to get this boat back in 99 when we were dating. She's used to the ride, no need for me to church it up for her or the kids. Lol.

What do you you think about dual vts racerxxx? The bar that ties the steering nozles is the only thing that has me wondering. Only thing I know to do is buy all the stuff and try. Some of the other boats have 2 steering cables and no bar, I wonder if you would need a second sterring cable to ditch the bar and have full independence for each nozzle
