Silly safety question...

Okay, after tightening up my wear ring with a coat of JBWeld, my 2000 Speedster is peppy and actually running like it should. But my wife and I found out just how dangerous it can be when I almost threw her out while doing a 180 spin. We were brainstorming some way of adding seatbelts. What's everyone's thoughts on this? I know if the boat flips it'll be a bad deal, but if we get that crazy I think unbuckling will be the least of my worries. I know that they would need to have stainless hardware but I don't think it would be too difficult to add a set of lap belts to the rear four seats. I'm also looking for some handles to add for the bow seat. Any ideas or cons? I did a search but couldn't find anything.

Honestly I would probably just slow down if someone almost got thrown out. Insurance, if you have it, probably is not going to cover reckless conduct and I would think that is one of many thing they will try to burn you on. Just my two cents...

Grab handles, yes. Seat belts... Absolutely not!!! After numerous years of fire and rescue I can tell you that if you are hanging upside down with a seat belt on you will not be able to release the belt with that much preload weight on the catch. You are better off being thrown clear at that point! Slow down and save the aquabatics for solo rides.

I certainly wouldn't install seat belts. Getting thrown from a SeaDoo boat is safer than from a conventional boat because there is no prop. If this is a persistent problem maybe you should slow down. You could also install a second kill switch for the passenger.

I also agree on the no seat belts thing. I would think you can get more OEM grab handles and install them. Just make sure that the area where you are going to put them can take the stress of someone holding onto one. The kill switch is one idea, but I would not mess with that unless you are extremely comfortable with the wiring and elecrical components of the boat, if you go cutting or splicing stuff you may end up with a boat that does not work at all. Have fun with it and stay safe. No one here wants you or your family to get hurt (or worse).

velcro mate. mo latches. just a few straps of seatbelt webbing ans some velcro sewn onto it. make sure there is plenty of the end to grab if you need to rip it off fast.
