Sorry if this long story is a bit confusing but I can't help it because my day was a little confusing as far as the issues I'm having...

Ski.. 99 GSX Limited 951 ...new motor..silver 951 from Sea Doo (less than 10 hrs) new carbs, new fuel lines, new oil lines, new battery, new starter, etc..NO mods...
I filled up gas (93 oct) & oil (seadoo synthetic xps) tanks as I normally do...started it on the hose before I left house...all good
Dropped it in the water, started up, and the "low oil" light comes on..didn't think much of it because it was low before I filled it..shut it off, started again and the light didn't come on..all good...
Ripped across the bay for about 5 min 3/4 throttle and wide open...all the sudden it shut off...waited a second, restarted it and it ran but would bog down as soon as I got on it...it ran ok at about 3500rpm...so I putted into the beach...pulled the plugs and they had some oil on them..changed them out with new ones and it ran good for about 5 min...the as soon as I hit WOT (wide open throttle) it shut down...so I putted back to the beach..I noticed my idle was low (1100 rpm) bumped it up to 1500 and started to ride again...it ran normal at about 3/4 throttle...didn't hit WOT again a all...cruised around, stopped and docked for lunch, cruised around and then out of no where the "low oil" light comes back on...WTF...starts beeping and flashing...I continue riding about 3/4 throttle...open it up a little more..it shut off....started up... putt back to the beach at about 3800 rpm..i check the oil level in the tank it was about 1/4 full...wich is also the fastest I have gone thru that much oil wich seemed a little weird to me because I hadent done that much ridding...so I filled it up with oil, started it up and the "MAINT" light comes on and it's now running like crap...just sounds and feels like it's missing or breaking up or something weird..defiantly not right..just feels like it's running very rough, dosent feel like it has power, figured the best idea would be to shut it down and bring it home before it blew up or something bad...
Got home and it started right up, thankfully it ran on the hose for a few minutes so I could flush the salt water out ....now when I put the key in it flashes "MAINT" but then cranks over and stays running....WTF ?
Can annyone suggest what I should be looking into or checking? Or do I have to bring it to the dealer to put om their computer or something?

When all this work was done... did anyone check the oil pump cable? Sounds like it's pumping full oil to the engine. Good for break-in... but bad for the plugs.

I would check compression. I've had rotax motors act like this in other vehicles only to find out I squeaked a piston. They ran fine when cold but when they got heat soaked they fell on their face.

We did check the cable at one point...something about making sure it was moving with the throttle I believe? If you could refresh me on what I would be looking for there that would be great!

Yea I was thinking that compression test may nbe in order...I'd hate to think this 10 hr old motor (from SeaDoo, not SBT) would squeak a piston =\

You are going to need a mirror. But, since your idle is set... just make sure that the mark in the pump arm, lines up with the mark on the pump body.

Also... I agree. Check the compression.

Will I have to take off the bulky air box to get more room to get to the pump where I can see it?

Also is there a way to see if the ski is throwing codes without taking to the dealers system?

Sorry I'm not extremely familiar with allhe terms ...what's the MAG cover? I think if I remember the pump was toward the front of the motor?

(front cyl)

(rear cyl)

The front cyl is reading a constant 150psi
The rear cyl is reading a constant 100psi

I put a little bit of oil in the plug hole, and then it showed 150psi twice, then constantly down to 100psi

So now my question is what's my next step? ...pull the head ? Can you see damage in cyl? Is there a way to see if it's a bad ring without pulling motor, crank, etc..?
Could it be one carb is running smooth and the other too rich?
Would it have anything to do with the raves? I don't know much about them, besides I can't see them being too gum,ed up as they are brand new with the motor and I have 6 hours on this oem motor wi only sea doo xps synthetic oil ran thru it...about 2 1/2 gallons so far I believe..

Any help much appreciated, thanks!

I'm not familiar with the 951's but you might be able to take the exhaust off and take a look or use a bore scope. But it's sounds like you squeaked a piston.

Just had a few minutes today, popped off the seat, and after sitting for a few days now there is about 1/2" of oil sitting in the bottom of the hull....WTF...I'm guessing something is going on with the pump
I'm gonna take it over to my buddies and let him pull it apart in his shop..
Also sucks about all that expensive seadoo xps synthetic being wasted

Ok, finally got around to wrenching on it....pulled the motor today...the entire hull was filled with 1" of oil..the 1/2 tank that was in the oil tank fully emptied out while sitting for the last 2 weeks...from pulling it a few miles on the trailer, then it sitting, then moving it from one trailer to another, then into garage, needless to say there was oil everywhere...it's difficult to see where its coming from...all lines were connected, and I pulled the tank itself and there are not visible holes or cracks..
The main feed line (from oil tank to motor) was in place properly..I thought I was going to find this to be obviously broken, off, cracked..something...it also still had oil in the line...it goes from the tank to the line to the filter, to the line into motor.. the closest part of this line to the motor still had oil in it and didn't seem to be leaking...but this was also the one line on the whole ski oil & fuel system that I did not replace when originally putting the new motor in before...the cable was also still moving freely and nicely with the touching of the throttle....where the hell could this oil be coming from? Bad seal on the pump? Bad seal or gasket some where else?
Should I do a block off plate and go pre mix now that he motor is out ?
Ohh...and I'm going to need a piston, rings, and cylinder sleeve on the pto cylinder...

It could have came from a loose hose clamp by the engine or check the condition of the grommets in the oil tank.

Yea that's what I'm thinking...also if I send cylinders out to full bore they say if u include piston they will tell you the source of failure...
Hmm...replace all gaskets and seals and hose orrrrr block off and premix....hmmmmmm...??

Got the motor apart...looks pretty obvious the pto cylinder was starving for oil =\
Also looks like the seal on he oil tank where the line comes out is bad and that's where the leak is (I think)
Should this grommet be able to spin? Cus mine does and that doesnt seem like a tight seal it can move

You just rewrote my post from a while back.Nearly!
On my oil pump the cam that is pulled by the cable lost it's KEY off the shaft and did not work properly. It was giving low oil to the carbs.Even though it all looked set up properly. If the cable breaks the cam will spin to full oil input, because of the return spring.Because my cam slipped on the shaft,at full throttle I was getting low oil input.Bang.
This may not be yours but please check it

BRO!!!
WTF!!!!???????????????
Did YOU install the motor, or did a dealer???
Is this one of those deals where you literally got JUST the motor, and you had to put the rest of the parts on?
so you cant take it back to whoever effed up your $1,000 motor?

Actually the motor was $2,500..came from the dealer...that's not including the new carbs ($900) new starter ($300)
Also replaced all fuel lines, oil lines, bunch of stuff...
Yea tell me about it, I'm pretty pissed off...
It wasn't done at a dealer or real shop, it was done in a buddies garage...legit garage with all tools and no how but we just over looked a few things i guess that should have been replaced that were not...like the grommet on the main feed tube of the oil tank...almost everything else has been replaced...

I don't know much about rebuilding but if it's slightly damaged would you be able to hone it out and maybe just replace the piston?
I can't believe that 951's are that expensive.

Have you pulled the mag cover off and checked the plastic pump thing? Those are known to destroy themselves when they get c0cked a little when its assembled. Its a crap design...all b/c it costed too much to put a square hole in the end of the crank.

Oil in the hull is usually a crappy tank. Again Seadoo saving money. The 96s had a one piece tank. Everything else has the tank you have which will leak thru the seam. I tell my customers to keep the oil below the line.

The reason for oil seepage is b/c of the check valve. It will hold 3-4 PSI which makes oil leak out of any place it can to relieve the pressure.

On the older models with the rotory valve and old oil seals where oil gets into the motor...this is the shade tree fix. Open the oil cap to vent. I ran a little rope to hang on the handlebars on my GFs 93 GTX and funny...theres never oil in the bilge, and the motor doesnt fill up with oil any more.
