Hi i have two 98 GTX limited. one of them is showing low 12 w.. and the rectifier is very hot..someone told me that is was the rectifier. i checked all the wiring and charged the battery back up and went back out . it did it again so i swapped the rectifier and the light was off for awhile but came back on again. can anyone help with this problem?

Hey Shannon..check the battery again, maybe not hold'n charge or not charged enough.
Then, with ski running, check volts at battery, should be 14v ish. repost what you find.

checked it before installing it. the last time. the book said to check the voltage running but the lake is 1 hour away. do they have a attachment so you can run at home.. thanks

If there isn't one already installed, then you can make one from parts at Home depot, Ace...etc.
Post/Thread i'm sure around here, as to which waterline to tap into, believe its right side line, look'n from back of ski, because other line, will put to much on valve.

12.97 v running .....question .. if the hose is hooked up, can water get in the motor??????????????????????

Yes...will travel thru cooling system and out the exhaust, but that 12v dont sound high enough. You switch the rectifier at lake, maybe the battery was to low to register new one, and thats why light still came on. What rectifier is in now? the one that got hot?

Testing?....

To test the charging circuit on the ski, you don't have to hook up the water to it. But, you have maybe a minute to run before you'll go hot.

When you changed the rectifier, did the battery start the motor? If so, then your battery was likely charged good enough to run. The reading you posted above with the ski running, shows the charging circuit is not working.

When you replaced the rectifier, did you replace with the proper one. They are all not created equally, you have to have the correct rectifier for your motor.

Check all your fuses. If your rectifier is the correct one, you may have a bad fuse or you've shorted it out, probably not knowing.

Never work on your electrical system with the battery connected.

You turn the water on after the engine starts for the reasons timmyboy states, but also, because the pressure from a water hose can breach the "0" rings that seperate the combustion chambers from the water jacket.

i have two identical ski's 98 GTX limited. Started it several times with the hose hooked to it trying to wear the battery down to see if the light would come back on......I disconnected the possitive terminal from the battery while running and it did not die. In theory, wouldn't the charging system be working fine? Going to take it to the lake tomorrow to see if I can kill it.

Your cool...(see if i can kill it). Have to say, lighting coil is work'n off the stator. Charge battery/s over night,...battery reading, when ski is running, around 14.5v,.
Again, double check connections, make sure wires/cables dont look burnt/corroded, and check fuses.
