Is it normal for there to be some resistance when shifting from forward into reverse on my 99 Seadoo Sportster 1800. I have to put some extra power into the shift to move it into reverse. No too much, but still some resistance there. Someone told me that is normal so you don't shift into reverse too quickly while moving to avoid engine damage.
 
Throttle sync...

There is a safety on the boats for shifting. You have to have the throttle at minimum before you can shift. There is some type of locking device that keeps you from shifting while in forward or reverse. You bring the throttle to minimum, you should be able to shift freely.

I've not really looked at this in depth before but I know my boat and others I've spoken too, have the same design. So, I think it's common on all boats. So, check into that.

But, to answer your question, No, there should be only a small amount created by the tension screw, that's it.......:cheers:
