Shark sightings

In honor of shark week, I thought I would ask what kind of sharks you guys have seen on your travels. I'll be taking our new to us jet ski to ocean city md, over the labor day holiday so I doubt I'll get to see any. Be crazy if one of you guys saw a great white!

i personally havent seen any.. although last year around this time there was a shark sighting close to swimmers at one of the popular beaches i bring my ski to.. luckily i was on the other side of the island in the bay.. far away from that haha

Never while out skiing, mostly because I ride on Lake Erie. ;-)

That said, I have seen hundreds, maybe even thousands if sharks all over the world. I am certified up to a Master Diver as well as a Military Diver.

I have been all over the world and in every case I have see some kind of a shark when I have been in the oceans. Browns, Hammer Heads, a few Great Whites and Tiger sharks.

Never had an issue with them yet. However, I'm not poking them with a stick either,,,

Oh, I did catch a 205 pound Brown Shark while fishing off the back of a Disney Cruise ship. I was going to let it go. But,,,, the ship offered me 1000 dollars for it, refund all money we spent for our trip and gave us 750 dollars worth of casino chips that we had to play, not cash in unless we won money. We ended up winning over a grand using their money.

So now the Brown Shark is mounted on the main entry way if the ship.

I was younger and considerably broker back then. I'd let it go if the same deal was given to me today.

I don't get to see many sharks in the inland lakes of Michigan except when somebody bring a baby shark home from Fl and releases it up here because it got too big.

I would assume they are dead from the fresh water right? I don't think I would go swimming again if I saw a shark in a lake. I'm nervous about going in the water as it is!

Might not be any sharks in Erie, but those water snakes everywhere are creepy.

Jeebus...I've seen seals, killer whales but no snakes or sharks.

That would ruin my blue seat!

There are a few rivers I ride on where there are plenty of snakes. I don't think I have seen 5 on the Lake itself.

I go up to put in bay at least once a year. This year i havent been yet but several times ive seen creepy snakes in the water. One trip like 5 years ago and we saw snakes everytime we were out on the water and had one try to slither up the side of the boat...lol

I will agree. Snake all over that area. I'm sure I have see a thousand or better with all my travels there. All through Marble Head, Kelly's Island, Put-in-bay,,,

We've had snakes come checking us out too, while in the water. I think they were cotton mouth snakes but maybe they were just some other kind, not sure.

Any snake that approaches you is always deadly and poisonous. LOL.

It can be a Gardner snake, if it comes out of no where we swear it has fangs.

A little off topic, but it contains water mammals and water jet engines.

I was jus south of Saudi protecting Marines that were on Landing Craft boats in transit to the shore. I was in a 25 foot Boston Whaler with twin 300 engines, 50-cal up front and twin 60-cals at the rear quarters. We completed our mission when we got a call from a Seal team on a Mark 5 boat. We went to help and got there at the same time another Mark 5 team showed up.

Had to do some medical stuff and then head back to base. The first Mark 5 was disabled so they towed it.

I swear to you that it was towed at 54 knots. I was both amazed and shocked. We followed behind to provide rear security.

About an hour into the ride back cruising along we went through a bloody patch of water. Come to find out, the running Mark 5 sucked a dolphin through one its impellers.

They pulled the boat to check for damage. None was found. The impeller is 36 inches in diameter.

I'm sure the dolphin never felt it. The Mark 5 never slowed down even.

YUCK to the above post. Did you find pieces of the dolphin in the prop area?

Anyways i saw this tonight.

Dead shark is found in NYC subway car.

NEW YORK (AP) — Did a fan of "Shark Week" get carried away?

New York City's transit authority says a conductor found a small dead shark aboard a subway train in Queens on Wednesday.

The conductor asked passengers to leave the car and closed it off. The train continued to the end of the line, and then a supervisor placed the shark in a garbage bag and put it in the trash.

Photos on the blog Gothamist depict the shark on the subway. It appears to be about 4 feet long, has a cigarette in its mouth with a fare card and Red Bull can nearby.

Transit officials say they were aware of the photos but are making no effort to find the person who posted them. The transit authority says it has "better things to do."
