I have been reading about the pros (stops weeds from wrapping around shafts) and cons (cause cavitation when they break) of shaft protectors on seadoo boats. I have a 1997 challenger 1800 and have removed all my drive components (only the engines remain) to do a complete overhaul drive shafts and pumps. I have 2 new shaft protectors and would like some opinions on weather to completely replace the shaft protectors or cut them were they come through the hull on the outside of the boat. If I do not cut them, in which direction should I face the slot in the shaft protector when I install it? One article I read advised cutting off the fingers of the shaft protector inside the engine compartment area after the epoxy adhesive dries, should this be done, yes or no? Please note I have been sure to remove any and all of the old shaft protectors from the through hull fittings, the old shaft protectors were almost completely destroyed.

Shaft guards?

I don't have mine anymore and I believe most with the later model boats have gotten rid of them. The theory was a good idea but the first time you wrap a ski/mooring rope in it, they are rendered useless.

I'd say leave them off..........
