Securing seadoo on trailer

Hey guys i was wondering how you guys would secure your seadoo to the trailer, as in keeping it from getting stolen? I am goin down to the keys for the "mini" season lol and im just curious on how to secure it while i am out on the bigger boat. I was thinking about a chain and lock around the steering column down and around the trailer. But thats just a thought. How do you guys keep your doo's safe?

Actually I've never really worried about it, I figure who's gonna steal a 17 year old ski, just take the lanyard with you. You might want to chain the trailer to a tree.

HAH funny that you brought this up. The jetskijunkies just had a facebook discussion on this subject.

1. coupler lock (the one that has a ball into the coupler)...but make sure the coupler is welded to the frame...not attached by bolts
2. chain and lock as you suggested.....but big bolt cutters can cut it.
3. Chain the ski to the trailer and the trailer to the car (see #2)
4. Sleep on the ski. :)
5 hire a guard :) :)
6. IDK if they make a motion alarm siren .....maybe just attach it with magnets to the trailer
7. GPS alert like the car companies have....so it can be tracked if stolen
8. make sure you back it up into a tight spot inbetween cars or/and buildings
9. ask the resort if you can store the ski in the pool overnight.....OK OK Just kidding on this one :)
10 park in the police station parking lot
Actually the more locks you have the tougher it gets to just walk away with it in a short time. Time is the thing thieves don't have to waste.

Tim,

You're gonna spend more on the anti-theft equipment than the ski is worth, we're talking about a $1500 ski.

Haha thats funny i like the pool idea. I wanna try t he chain idea but i know it can easily be cut. But it does slow them down i guess. Lou i couldnt do that haha i live on this thing, im on it 3 days a week and the weekend its an addiction! Those are some good tips any more?

im with Lou, i just simpily use a coupler lock for the seadoo trailer tongue and pull the key out and take it with me (the D.E.S.S digitally encoded security system key has the chip and the chip is programed to only fit your ski therefore as long as you have a dess key noone else at the lake will be able to start your ski but you.

Run a cable through the bow eye around the trailer and lock the two eyes together. You could do the same with the stern eyes.

If someone WANTS the ski they are going to get it.

All you can do is try.

Easy thing to donuts to remove the winch handle. Doesn't stop them but makes it harder.

Thats prob gonna be my plan and just hope nobody wants it. I have to leave it outside of the campground do to limited parking and i am goin to leave it hooked up to the car. Guess we'll find out haha

One things for sure, if you're going to use a locking pin on your trailer (where the hitch goes on the ball) please put a locking hitch pin in the drop hitch also.

It's pointless to lock only one and leave the other with a standard pin.

good suggestions.

pretty much the only thing I do is park in low crime area's, next to nicer trailers :)

however, If I can, i try to back the trailer tires right up to the cement tire stop things and kind of snug it up there, since its a little more difficult to pop my trailer if there is pressure pushing the trailer up against the truck. I gave up on coupler locks, pin locks, all that stuff a long time ago, but I also live in a very low crime area, if I lived in Miami, different story.

for the record, this is a cement tire stop thing... (lol, i dunno what we call them)

Easy thing to donuts??????....donuts, you must have been hungry when you wrote that.

Tim (Spim) I think it's called a parking block. That idea goes along with my idea #8 in post #3.

Some very good suggestions i like the parking block idea that seems legitimate. Brian i hear you on that they both need a lock

That is funny stuff. Sitting at my desk in tears. Nice break from a crappy day at work. Thanks!

I'm not too worried about it, as I have the skis and trailer insured, and 15-17 years old, I doubt anyone will want to take 'em, except maybe for parts

That said, unless they're at home, the trailer remains attached to truck - hitch has a locking pin as does my drop hitch, and two of the chain links are padlocked, as well they'd have to either break the lock(s) or remove the ball to separate it from the vehicle

I'm more concerned with having my gas stolen from the tanks again (last season) that wasn't cool.. Not sure how to protect from that, aside from I store them with the covers on (that have zippers over the fuel knob anyway lol) I've been trying to leave them parked with as little fuel as possible after a run if I'm leaving them overnight (again, except at home.. no one's bothered them, ever..)
