I have the upper section of my exhaust tuned pipe removed to fix the leaking plug on it. What type of sealer works best to use between the 2 sections of the tuned pipe on a 1997 787 GTX.

The gasket to the manifold is installed dry and as Mac said Permatex Ultra Copper on the lower joint with the copper ring.

The pipe to the manifold needs the paper type gasket. It is an exhaust manifold and pressures may blow out goop in a tube used. Be careful to get the bolts threaded straight and true. Look at them too. I have had them break off while tightening. The top part was stretched. Make sure you get the washers and rubber bushing right on the vertical hold on bolt on pipe. It is easy for the washer at manifold to fall away. Then it can become loose next season. My first clue was when I found the washer in the bilge.
