Sealants for my Rebuild - What do you think?

Hey guys:

I'm putting a new crank in to my Seadoo 657, plus a top end kit. I stopped at AutoZone today and got some of the basic stuff:

Crankcase sealer - I got Permatex The Right Stuff #25229
Exhaust Gasket Sealer - I got Permatex High Temp Red RTV #81160
Cylinder Gasket Sealant - I got Permatex High Tack #80060

Think these will work? Any better recommendations for substitutes that would be easily obtained?

If it was my engine:


Crankcase sealer - ThreeBond 1194
Exhaust Gasket Sealer - dry
Cylinder Gasket Sealant - dry



The reasons:

Case: Threebond is the best, and it stays flexable. (forever) OR, you can use contact cement, and a single silk thread. (better, but not easy to do)

Exhaust: The high temps will break down the RTV

Cyl: The sealant may add thickness to the base, and change the squash band. AND... if the case isn't warped, the gasket will seal it.
 
I've read a bit about the squish gap test and it makes good sense to me. However, what I *haven't* run across is cyl gaskets of varying thickness. In he few stores I've looked at, they've only offered the gaskets with no mention of thickness, which makes me wonder about the next step if he gap isn't what I want.

And I trust your opinion DrH, plus "dry" is cheap! Are there any brick and mortar places to get the three bond? I googled it, but it didn't seem to come up with any of the usual suspects.....

Most motorcycle shops have it. It's the best stuff to seam a motorcycle case. You can use yamabond too. I don't remember if it was #4 or #5... but it's the "Gray" version. (same stuff in their label) Also, the Yamabond package will say "Sealing engine cases" on the back. I use to be a die hard Yamaha guy... but I haven't bought the Yamabond version in about 15 years... and I know they changed to a number system. (it use to be Yamabond gray)

As far as the base gasket... that's a little disturbing. I know most kits come with a 4 dot gasket... but any dealer should be able to get you what you need if the 4 dot is not in spec. (Seadoo sells 6 different gaskets)
 
I just looked it up... it should be Yamabond #4. (same as 1194)

So... if you have a yamaha shop close to you... they will have it.
 
Cool man. Found a local Yamaha dealer and they said they stock Yamabond #4. So that's cool. Gonna run over this afternoon methinks.

Looked in my manual and found the squish gap specs (0.039 - 0.051") for the 657. However, I didn't seem to find the procedure laid out, but I've read how to do it here and it seems pretty simple. So that spec is what the solder is supposed to measure after squishing, correct?
