Could this place ever have a small chat interface, maybe similar to facebook, or a collapsible chat window. Things can get a bit chatty from time to time, and it leads to a bit of topic wandering, some is fruitful, some just makes for unintentional miles of short questions and replies on an unfinished thread. It would also be nice to live chat with people that are pm-ing you while your online.

I know the short answer is to exchange external messenger information and chat outside the forum entirely. I think it would add to the community feel, even if it was just a simple pop-out public chat window that you could opt to open with login.

Its not a decision I have anything to do with, just curious if anyone else would use such a thing, or if it is a good idea at all.

Vote on the poll

ive wondered the same thing. im on other forums that have a chat feature and i like it.

I'd do some chatting. We could get INSTANT advice from Doc that way.... ;-) j/k Doc...

I think Doc saw this because we have a No vote lol. I would surmise Snipe, Greg, and Doc would have to "appear" offline in the chat window, to save their sanity.

Anyone else catch this?

chat rooms are a good place to meet young girls. Or in Lou's case, cops pretending to be young girls. hmm, I wonder if the number of "yes" votes is indicative of the number of child molesters on the forum. Lou, how many times did you vote???

Personally, I prefer to meet girls at family reunions. That way ya know what they look like before talking to them.

More yes votes probably indicate a chatroom or I/M system would be nice. I'm sure no-one here is looking for true love, and if they are, good for them, I love my seadoo too....

Well most chat rooms are for just bsing and I now getting info. But it would be a great place just to pass the time in the winter.

You a spy? We are thinking about opening up a chat room for members with over X posts. That way it will still keep the forum active.

Since your still here. :) That is cool. I know the point of a forum is to have a record that others can read and learn from. Some things like "hows your kid" or "what's the weather like" is kinda babble that only the people involved in the conversation would ever care to read, and it kinda slips into the threads some times, with no avoidance.
Example:[JoeBlo]"Hey, haven't heard from you in a while, how is the boat coming?"
[SneeksPeaks]"I haven't had time to work on it becuase of the pending CIA investigation"
[JoeBlo]"so what did you do?"
[SneeksPeaks]"Nothing, I've been following it on the news 24/7"
[JoeBlo]..........

I do think such talk is good for the community because it adds a social aspect which promotes more frequent use, business connections, and ect ect. This is especially true for forum user's in general, unless you know someone from real life before the forum, what are the chances you would chat on facebook? Besides, I'm a bit lazy, and adding friends that I only know from being on here is a bit time consuming.

I know you "Greg" try to get in to at least breeze all posts, but it is really cool to see that you listen to the input of your members. This whole forum has a great tone, and the members are really turning out to be a great group. I hope this continues, and maybe the chatroom thing takes off.

P.S. All members, please go to the top and vote if you are reading this. Your opinion matters either way!

I think it would be a neat feature but would be under utilized.
I would check to see who is here very time I log in, but some times it is several days before i can check back in here...

http://www.3sgto.org This place has a chat bar that is always at the top of the forum when you are logged in. P.S. if you want to take a look at it, you will have to register and click the "why can't I post link" make a post on that thread like, FastOne64 sent me from the other forum. A mod will wander by the thread and open your account. When you log back in you can see the chat room. It's an example, the forum is kinda new, and another competitor already has most of the members, but the chatroom stays pretty busy.
