I am moving up from my 2006 Seadoo GTI with 135 HP to either a 215 or 255 HP SeaDoo (2009). My question is, is there a significant difference in speed or do they both top out at the same speed and what about accelleration, is it significantly different or not that noticeable.

they both have about the same top speed but the X 255hp has way better hole shot. It really depends on what your plans are for the ski. You leaving it stock or modding and witch one rxp or rxt???

I enjoy my acceleration on my GTX 155hp, so I'm sure the 255 for me personally would be overkill. The 215 is probably be enough for most... as Sporster mentions you have to tell us which unit? 2 or 3 seater makes a difference. Plus you are limited in 255 model range. The 215 is attainable in virtually any configuration you desire as well as save you $ at the dealer and at the pump.

They both burn the same gas, they are the same engine except the 255 has a bigger s/c and 42 injectors, also the 255 is a little faster than the 215 like 3-5mph diffrence, but there are more mods available for the 215 than the 255 plus it would cost you an arm and a leg to upgrade the 215 motor to the 255. If you are just a recreation speed rider I would say go with the 215....but if you are a speed junkie go wit the 255

A 215 has a very good hole shot but a 255's is extremely good. Other than that, a 255 can sustain a slightly faster top speed around 1-2mph esp if the rider is a little heavy. the 255 has worse gas milleage, but honestly both are terrible...read up on the specs, about 1.5 hours per 60L or 15gal, and that might be generous.

If you were to race a stock RXP against a stock RXP-X from zero to full speed, the RXP-X would end up about 8-10 ski lenghts ahead of the RXP...so the difference is pretty big but rarely needed!

Hope this helps

Matt

I wouldnt buy the rxt-x as there have been ALOT of problem with them blowing the intake tunnels out and they end up sinking. So if thinking of a 3 seater go with just the rxt. ALSO there are just as many mods for the 255hp as there are for the 215hp only thing is the RXP-X cant go over 80mph cause of the bigger intake tunnel it over stuffs and bucks you off so if you intend to be modding for top speed the 215hp rxp is your best bet.

X boat are desgined for closed course racing cause of there awesome hole shot. The 215hp Is best for speed higher then 80mph if you plan to mod.

at 155hp im filling the tank after the weekend, so I'm sure the X255's drink..not to mention you should be using Premium fuel, and the prices are on the rise again as the summer approaches.

Then again, if you're worried about fuel consumption, i suppose you could look into switching hobbies to Backgammon or collecting stamps

i just bought a 215 and its insane ive been on 155s and this thing is crazy fast compared to them..i got about 3 and a half hours of straight ridding on one tank of gas crusing at around 40 to 50 mph. i cant imagine what the 255 is like cus the 215 is stupid fast

I totaly agree, I was breaking my 215 in this week end and was thinking wow, what would it feel like to hit the water at 65 to 70 mph.. The thing is crazy fast.

215 or 255

About 11 months ago I was faced with the same decision. I decided to go with the 08 GTX 215 ski, and I love it! I am a lite guy about 6 ft 165lb. and I have hit 70mph on the speedometer in the bay. Its a incredible feeling. I was surprised to say the least. I upgraded from a 96 GTX 787 ski. there was no comparison. But I saved myself 3k plus tax between the two models. What ever seadoo you choose you will be happy with it. but 70 is fast enough for me... for now.

I had the same decision about 3 weeks ago and i ended up going with the 255. I'm really not out for the fastest top speed, I am all about the hole shot and i was told that if you want raw power off the gate to go with the 255. Still on my break in period tho... so i haven't really had the chance to "ride it like you stole it" But i am looking forward to it

Broc

have a RXT-X and my friend has a RXT and the main difference is that the pick up on the X (255hp) model is much quicker...Also, i have the VTS (trim system) on the 3 seater whereas the 215hp three seater doesnt come with it.
