I have a 2004 seadoo bombardier utopia 185 and I am having issues with reverse at full throttle. Works fine at half throttle but at full it has white smoke from exhaust, lack of power, and warning beep sounds with one continuous beep until I let off the throttle. Runs great forward and seems fine at half throttle reverse. Anyone else have this problem or know the cause?

I can only make assumptions/guesses here...perhaps while under full throttle in reverse you are causing pump starvation of water while forcing an aggressive stream of water under the boat and accross the intake...resulting in a temporary overtemp condition as the pump is unable to supply sufficient cooling water to pass through the motor, thus the warning beep and lack of power..?

What is the need for full-throttle in reverse? Never had the need for this maneuver?

The system only allows 2500 RPM in reverse. You are bouncing off the limiter... and it's trying to tell you to stop.

If you want more power in reverse... then disconnect the throttle guardian.

Thank you for the replys. I don't really have a need for full throttle reverse, I was just concerned there might be something wrong since it had never happened before.

On mine boat, any sustained speed in reverse above 1/3 throttle causes cavitation. Moving backwards limits the amount of water available for the jet pump intake.
