Hi All
I am a newbie here in England to the boating scene. always had fast bikes and cars but wanted a little something different.
So i found a nice 2002 seadoo sportster with brand new engines that had barely been run in and decided to purchase.
2nd trip out on the water today after the first finding a misfire, and had a good tear up with a couple of jet skis. i had stripped the carbs and cleaned out the water catchers fron the fuel tank.
Going really well today untill i let off, then the engines still run well but the boat doesnt propel forward as it was a moment before. If i could describe it it almost seems like a slipping clutch. it revs and goes forward but take it past half throttle and it almost revs out .
Can anyone give me some idea what the issue might be please. My local guy here seemed to think it was an impeller problem but it was not happening the first time we went out and seems intermittent. one motor seems to develop a misfire when this occurs, changed all four plugs and tested them so they are all good.

Grateful for any advice.

If it feels like a clutch slipping it’s usually the wear ring around the impellar.

i have looked up to check the impellars and i can see some pitting / chunks out of the surrounding casing/ wear ring would this be the cause of some vibration and the lack of go.

Yes that’s your wear ring coming apart causing cavitation . They aren’t too hard to replace. Pull your pumps. Change your pump oil in the cones on your pumps while you have them out.
