Hi all, I just joined. I’m excited to be part of this for him as I’ve gotten a lot of useful information out of posts I’ve read.

I recently pulled the battery out of my speedster as it was low on charge and when I put it back I was having the no beep issue when I put the lanyard on the post.

after reading some things on here, I determined that it must be a ground wire issue. Are used to separate wire to ground the battery to the engine block, and everything worked fine. But I can’t figure out is why the old ground wire which ran to A screw on the Fuel filler, no longer works. In fact, it seems that the only way I can get the thing to work at all is to run a line from the negative terminal on the battery directly to something on the engine block. Nothing else seems to function as a ground. Any thoughts on the way this might be or what would be causing that issue? I tried a number of spotsIn the engine compartment, but only things on the block seem to make it work.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I just saw an error in my post. I was trying to say that I used a separate wire to jump from the battery to the engine block and that worked fine.

This boat switches negatives. For example, the fuel pump has a constant positive 12v supplied. When the ECU wants the fuel pump to work it completes the ground. The ECU switches negatives. The fuel filler neck has a separate ground run to it since its not touching anything but a rubber hose and fiberglass; I'm sure you can figure why it should be grounded. The negative battery terminal cable connects to the front of the engine. There are 3 10mm bolt that attach all of the grounds to the engine. There is another ground buss under the glove box compartment behind the gauge cluster (where the VCU is located). Make sure all of the connectors on the front of the engine are clean. Look for corrosion in the wire ends, especially coming from the stator. Do you have a manual?

I don’t have the manual but I will get one! Thank you for this amazing reply. This is super helpful. I think I can trace the ground wires given your explanation. Thanks so much Mister Magoo! (As an aside, my family called me Mr. Magoo until I was 2 1/2 because I was almost completely bald until then ;)
