I Just purchased my first boat, a 2008 SeaDoo Speedster 200. I'm still getting familiar with it and don't know a whole lot about it quite yet. This past weekend I was cruising around on the lake at about 4,000-5,000 RPM's when out of nowhere one of the motors just shutoff. No warning lights ever came on nor did I ever have any alarms go off at any point.

I limped back to the marina on idle with the other engine. I don't believe I hit anything and it certainly didn't feel like it. When back at the marina I let the boat sit for about an hour before firing it back up. Both motors fired up with no problem and sounded for the most part normal. When I go to engage the throttle one engine revs up, but no thrust. The other engine seems to be fine and will create thrust.

Any ideas or insight to what may have gone wrong or caused this? Thanks in advance for any light someone could shed on this for me.

I would take the boat out of the water. Hook your garden hose to the engine with no thrust. Proper procedure with a Sea Doo is to turn the engine on, then the water. Look under the boat and see if the shaft is turning. Also, look into the back of the jet pack and see if the impeller is turning. Then, turn off the water BEFORE you cut the engine. That is the proper procedure. Never run the water without the engine on. Without compression, the water can flow into the engine... Try to do this with someone. You don't want to run the engine out of the water for more than a minute or two or you can overheat your carbon seal. I am not a mechanic. But, this is what I would do to at least have some idea what is going on...

Also, when the boat is off, look into the intake grate at your propeller. Does it look normal? Bent? Are there any foreign objects in there? Can you move the shaft with your hand? BTW, it shouldn't move up or down, back and forth. I would guess it is possible that your jet pack bearings are fried. But, I would think you can hear that...

High revs and no thrust is some sort of a cavitation issue. Bad wear ring and or carbon seal are the most common issue. Also not uncommon for the driveshaft splines to go bad.
