i need help working out why both rev counters dont work at all

I shall Quote the Irreverent but always applicable, Dr. Bones McCoy "They're dead, Jim."

You could check the connections on the back of each tachometer to see if maybe they are loose or corroded. If lose, tighten  or if corroded, take off, clean and try again.

When I got mine, one tach was dead and one was fine. They are something like ~$230 each so unless you are just rolling on dough, I would suggest you possibly replace just one and see if that is the final solution and then replace the other.

My tach's and speedo are dead...bought this way. It sounds like this may be a somewhat common problem...any way to prevent this?

Is there any way to test the tach? I have access to lots of electronic test equipment as I'm an EE, but have no idea what the look like from the ECU to the tach...if I hook up 12V and a pulse generator, should it move?
