SeaDoo Spark hull issue

Hey everyone. Just left the dealership in Ann Arbor, MI where I was supposed to take delivery of my brand new Spark 2up...

I ended up refusing to accept the machine because during my inspection, I noticed a 1-2 inch gouge in the bottom of the hull on the starboard side of tge craft. The manager swears that he has seen this issue at least 7 or 8 times before and its from resting on the wood support in the crate during shipping. He assured me that this would pose zero issues or risk of cracking the hull in the future.

He is probably right but knowing that I will surely make my own scratches and gouges on my own, I did not want to start off with a brand new investment having that before I took my first ride. I have also read online that the Spark hulls can and have cracked under hard use and I knew once I drove away this would be my problem to deal with should I run into any issues.

Needless to say I am pissed and disappointed that I am driving home without seeing my new toy in the rearview mirror.

They did not have any other units in stock and are supposed to find me another one tomorrow from distribution center in Ohio.

Please share your thoughts on this and any experience or opinions that come to mind!

I think you made the right choice. If that truly was the story, I would think brp would have corrected the crating issues after the first year of production. Anxious to see the next one, if it doesn't have it. Wonder what the dealer will say. To my recollection, I have never seen pics or heard this claim before. I have forgotten a few things before, lol.

Thanks for the response, I was really close to giving in and accepting the spark but I knew deep down that it wasnt the right decision. Cant wait until my sales rep calls me this morning to let me know if he is able to get me another 2up. If not I feel like they should make me a sweet deal on a 3up for the hassle.

As of right now, the deal stands at 5600$ out the door for the base 2up which I thought was a pretty fair deal to begin with...

Talked to the dealer today. They have supposedly located a yellow one for me. Having it shipped there for delivery on Monday. Hopefully this time will go smoothly... They said they will be inspecting this one more closely before delivery. Crazy thing is they already charged my credit card even though I do not have a spark. Not worried about it, its on my AmEx and they will remove the charge instantly if I call them. Just giving the dealer the benefit of doubt although I do have a feeling they tried to pull a fast one the first time around. Its Free Ride Motorsports in Ann Arbor.

Picked up my new Spark today. Happy the dealer made it right even though they swear the gouge from the first one was from shipping. Said no biggie, they will sell it to the next guy no problem. Not if hes as picky as me! LOL. Anyways, super happy to own one of these. Cant wait to test her out. Just gotta get the damn boaters safety course done now...

Nice deal, sounds like the dealer wanted to keep you as a customer for the long run! Enjoy the toy. I like the Spark when I rode one, very floaty.

Yeah, not a high performance machine by any means but its brand new and comes with a two year warranty which was a big selling point for me. Could have definitely got a "higher end" used jet ski for the same money or even a pretty decent boat but didnt want the potential headaches or costs associated with those purchases. Asked the service manager about common issues that he sees sparks coming back in for and he said nothing other than abuse or wear ring replacement from people thinking they can drive them all the way on to the beach under power. I rented one on vacation two years ago in the keys and thought it was plenty fun for my liking and Im sure the one I rented had already had the piss beaten out of it many times before I got on it.
