I have a 1996 GSX that I'm bringing back to life. I was going to use the Seadoo XPS full synthetic for 2 strokes in it as I have cleaned the oiling system and that's what previous owner used in the that particular motor.

I just this past weekend picked up a 1996 GTI. Going to get it up and running also. The previous owner used the Seadoo XPS mineral oil. He said it was serviced at the local Seadoo dealer and that's what they recommended.

So my question is, are these oils the recommended oils for each model? Any chance both could use the XPS full synthetic or XPS mineral oil. I'd like to be able to buy just one type of oil and purchase in bulk.

The GSX requires the full synthetic since it is a Rave valve engine. The mineral oil is fine for the GTI but you could use the full synthetic for both but it will be a little more pricey. If you go that route make sure you completely empty the old mineral oil out of the GTI because you shouldn't mix different oils.

This is what I purchased for the 1996 GSX. They told me the yellow container has been phased out. This is XPS full synthetic for high performance carbureted engines.

It looks like new packaging. Make sure the back says API-TC rated.

And I run the full synthetic XPS in all my skis including the 720's that only require the mineral. It is easier to just buy and cary 1 oil for all my skis.

I’ve looked over front and back of the jug and don’t see the API-TC written anywhere on the jug. Two separate sales reps told me this XPS full synthetic had replaced the yellow jug. Do think it’s safe?

Aqui no Brasil, não encontramos o xps, então uso o Motul 710 ou 800 100% sintético. É um óleo muito bom porque tem a fórmula anti-tabaco, não deixando resíduos na cabeça do pistão.

I want to say it is correct but I cannot believe it doesn’t say anything in the label what specifications it meets. I didn’t see anything anywhere.

Yeah, me either. It's XPS and Full Synthetic and that's about all the relevant info the description provides. I tried to use Google Translate to read the above post, but even it came up with something nonsensical.

Guys, this may be a stupid question, but I’m a 96, can anyone tell me WHY the 787 Rave engine needs the TC vs TCW oil ?

I’ve had both 787 and 717 engines apart to the last screw, and I don’t see any difference in the oil delivery or basic construction.

The oil delivery doesn’t touch the rave system either...

No seadoo engine ever uses TCW oil. It is a lower spec oil and seadoo makes more power per cc so it needs a better oil. The 787 and 951 need the full synthetic because it burns cleaner and keeps the RAVE valves from carboning up.

Translation is quite good from Google Translation: "Here in Brazil, we did not find the xps, so I use the Motul 710 or 800 100% synthetic. It is a very good oil because it has the anti-smoking formula, leaving no residue on the piston head."

Anyway, since the e-tec synthetic oil is BRP oil I would stick with it. Specifications are not mentioned its true but it does say that it is good for all 2-stroke skis.
