Hey guys,

I have been wanting to get my hands on a seadoo for quite some time now but was never sure what model to look for in particular. I did alot of reading on the forum and found it to be very helpful and it gave me an idea of what i want.

So, I found a bombardier XP 800 1997 for sale for around 3500$ cdn with 160 hours on it. I read up a bit about this model and most of what i find is that the engine is reliable but it is not so stable and is tough to ride with 2 people. Also, another point that popped up more than once was an issue with water getting into the engine?

my question to you guys-gals is: What seadoo would you suggest for a novice rider?

- I am mechanically knowledgeable and am not too worried about maintenance although i would like something on the reliable side

- I like to go fast :) lol

- I would prefer something that i can enjoy with at least another person

Also i read about Premix vs oil injection, what is preferred among riders?

thanks for your help!

PWC type?

It really depends on what your looking to do with it. If your just wanting something to tour with, then you can look for the heavier 3 seat models like the 1998 GTS. This ski has the less powerful 717 engine, which is a very reliable engine. It's design is like the 787 minus the balance shaft.

You can look at models made for sport, like the XP, which in 1998 came out with the XP limited using the faster 947cc engine. The horsepower was un-matched at the time and probably the fastest on the market.

With most coming in with a dry weight between 450 and 500 lbs., the total passenger and load limits for the sport models are around 350 lbs. but with the 3 seaters, your looking at a more stable craft with a load limit around 500 lbs.

So, you see, it's all in what you want it for. If you want to be fast and nimble, then I'd say go with the XP with the 787. This ski will put you up in the upper 50's and 60's range but a little less stable at slower speeds with a passenger (it's like balancing a motorcycle with a passenger). If your looking for stablilty, then you have to sacrifice speed because of the added weight of the hull due to the increased size.

The newer model 3 seaters with the 4-TEC engines don't necessarily apply to this because the engine itself is capable of overcoming the added weight. You can find these newer 3 seaters with anything from the 155 hp to the 215 supercharged.........

I hope this helps you in deciding what you want. Oh, BTW, the price on that 97 XP with the 787 (which I'd like for myself!) is a pretty fair price for Canada dollars...............

hey snipes,

I will go take a look at the 97 xp, Ideally it would be good to try the seadoo although alot of our lakes up here are still frozen over. How can i properly test it out and make sure that it is in good running shape? what should i look for?

thanks!
