Is it worth it to add an inter cooler to our 185hp engines and is there any performance gains to remove intake grate ?

According to the specification differences in the manual of my 2006 challenger the one key difference between the Supercharged only and the Supercharged Intercooled that is clearly noticeable is the compression ratio. The SC has a 10.6:1 and the SCIC has a 8.5:1, so I dont think that adding an intercooler is just that straight-forward, but I could be wrong!

I think if you look at the manual again your looking at supercharged and nonsupercharged . With the differences you stated in compression ratios. Thankyou

The manual is correct for my boat which came in the 185hp Super Charged and 215hp Super Charged Inter Cooled versions. You did not specify what model, year or boat engines you have.

I can tell you, the engine management delivers fuel based on manifold pressure calculated with temperature. The IC lowers the temp which increases the density which ultimately results in more fuel. More fuel equals more HP.

I will tell you adding an IC will give you more HP through lower intake Temps. How much HP is the question.

I ran my boat late this year on a day that was around 12 degrees out. My boat hit 64Mph, something it will not do on a regular summer day. The reason was the the temp and air density.

Have you priced out what it would cost to add one?
