Seadoo gti long start

Picked up a seadoo gti recently. Guy forgot to mention that he premixed the gas and I got the oil pump working again. I can get the ski to start but it takes way to long. Sounds perfect once it does start. Would to much oil cause it to take a while to get it started?

Does the choke work?
Is it only hard to start in the morning or all the time?

Is it cranking slow or just takes a long time to fire up and run?
What is "a long time", seconds, minutes?

Did you verify the new carb has all the correct jets, springs and settings? New fuel selector and strainer o-ring? Air leaks will cause really hard starting.

How are you starting the ski? Pull the choke out till the ski fires. No throttle at all. I've seen lots of skis have an air leak at the water separator. I pressure up the fuel system with the lines blocked off close to the fuel baffle. I check everything... fuel valve function and holding pressure. You might try starting the ski on Reserve which may reveal a leak on the "ON" side.

It's a no no on this board but I use starting fluid when my skis have been sitting. One pop and off they go. :D Sometimes I just have to show the can to the ski and they start right up. :D :D I don't like grinding the starter or running down the battery. Good Luck !!

Would the premix and oil pump cause it to have to much oil?

Yes, but that is a good thing and a safety net on a fresh engine. On a new engine for the first tank only, I run the oil pump and premix 50:1 but it can foul plugs.

I know people that run the injection pump and premix as routine. To me if it isn't starting up after the first few tries you have a fuel delivery issue. I'd check for leaks. A mighty vac works but I have a pump that can provide pressure and vacuum. Stay with it, you'll get R done !!
