Seadoo gti help

Not open for further replies.
I recently just purchased a seadoo gti 1997 717. It cranks but won’t start. The carb spits gas out, is there a common cause for that? It’s not much but it does spit it a little out when cranking. It’ll crank all day & even start shaking and sounding like it wants to start and just stop. Also shoots a little bit of gas out cylinders. Mpem is also working correctly. I’ll list what I’ve done and see if anyone has any idea.

All new
•fuel lines (all in right spot)
•all new filters
•rebuilt carb other than needle and seat
• new battery
•all new spark plugs & they have perfect spark

I never really was concerned with needle and seat through the years but lately I have had a change of heart not to mention a little convincing from a buddy that does this for a living. So if you have not changed the needle a seat I would. I also had seat not fit properly in the carb and cause a major gas leak and flooding this last season which kinda sounds like what you are having. If you have spark, decent Comp and certain you don't have any internal issues like rotor valve Etc I would pull the carb back off and do a thorough
inspection. Take you time a be detail oriented. I bet you will find you answer.

Is there any easy way to check if your rotor valve is bad? Thanks for the reply

First question..

What carb rebuild kits did you use?
Did you use the new springs from the kits?
Did you check pop-off and leak down?

What is your compression?

I used a pretty good kit. $60 kit. That’s what I’ve used on every other ski I’ve fixed & never had any problems. No new springs or seat/ needle. I did not check pop off abs compression is both 140 in both so decent not perfect.

What "pretty good kit"?

If it wasn't a genuine Mikuni you are going to have problems.

Did you remove the seat when cleaning? Ill mention again Ive done a few and have had no issues but one time I got the seat in slightly canted and it looked good but once I had fuel going everywhere I new something was wrong. I took the carb apart while doing so I noticed the error. Ill just say take a close look as you take it apart. I was working on dual carb setup so I had one to compare it to. I could see the difference. Good luck!!
