Seadoo boat struggling to plane...

I have a 1997 Seadoo Speedster. I took it out the other day and the left engine is struggling to get on plane, the rpms are revving high, but once I do get on plane it runs perfectly normal. I checked all the splines, they are all good. There is nothing caught in the impellers. Anybody have an suggestions on what it might be? Thanks.

Wear ring is the issue I'd say. Is the gap wider than the width of a dime? This assumes the impeller itself is not damaged or bent. And if the wear ring is good, then it is the carbon seal.

I have replaced my wear ring, & grinned down my impeller smooth. What do you think is wrong with the carbon seal? (Just not greased?) I am having the same problem as the guy that posted this with high rpms, but will eventually plane out & run great. Do you think to much weight in back of boat can cause this also? I can get it to plane out with me & 1 other sometimes have the guy started at the front to help plane it and move back once going. We tried pulling a tube and was unable to plane out. Just moved with high rpms dragging. So I guess will weight cause it to not plane?

Pump the grease fitting on the PTO, it will push the stainless half of the carbon seal tighter. Don't over do it, slowly and watch the shaft. Once it stops moving you stop filling the grease. Also when you put the pump back on did you put a new neoprene seal on the pump support? If there isn't one you need it, if not water will just push out around it and cause cavitation.

Yes, that will seal the pump. If you have house fittings that go through the boat you will need seal them with silicone. But if you have a black plastic pump mount that is permanently mounted them you don't have to use any silicone, just make sure proper little seals are there to seal the ports to the pump support mount. Check the microfiche on line(links at the top of the page for parts), it will make more sense.

X2 on that.

Also while trouble shooting you might try putting a little grease between the carbon seal and the stainless. It will seal temporarily and indicate that the shaft is not far enough back or the bellows needs replacing because it has gotten too soft.

Buy new Carbon Seal like everyone else is saying. Since you have dual engines I would do both. Plus a new boot unless you know the age of it. The new style puts more pressure on the seal..
