Hi guys i have a seadoo gts with a 717 i took it out the last night and it started ok when i have it throttle it went for about 30 sec and died now it wont start. ive pulled the carb off and i can get it to fire by putting fuel in the manifold but it is blowing smoke back out when it fires.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Since you have the carbs. off, ground the spark plug wires, and turn over you should see the rotary valve turn through the carb. manifold, it will be easier to see if you use a mirror.

Ok ive checked and it does not appear to be turning.

I also found a bolt in the manifold that appears to have jammed it.

Next question what is involved in fixing my problem and can anyone provide me with a reliable parts source? i may as well just de-carbonise the pistons as well if i have to lift the engine out.

Yep... the engine has to come out. If you are lucky... you only killed the gear on the RV shaft, and you can replace the RV shaft as one unit. (You will need to flush out the RV gear case) If the gear on the crank is messed up... it's time for a full rebuild since you will need a new crank, and to split the case.

I also found a bolt in the manifold that appears to have jammed it..

Did you determine the source of the bolt?

This happened to me once long ago. the bolt holding the flame arrestor tray to the carb backed out (one of the two), and went into the intake and jammed the valve.

depending on what happened you might be able to fix it with the engine in place, but you run the risk of leaving behind the shavings of the gear in the oil sump.

Good Luck.

I always use blue threadlocker on all those bolts now....

As above... you can leave it in the hull... but it's better if you have the engine on the work bench for the clean out. Oh... and as above... figure out where the bolt came from.
