Sea-Doo speedster wake twin 215’s won’t plane on 1 engine

Why won’t my boat with twin 4tec 215’s plane on 1 engine? But a challenger 180 with a single 4tec 215 will? Is the jet pump larger on the challenger? Or is my speedster just cavitating too much? Both pumps, wear rings and impellers are fairly new. What’s the point of dual engines besides the added pulling power, if ya can’t get on plane to get home. I had to idle all the way back to dock

Our 210 SE 430hp will get up on plane on a single motor. Granted it takes a bit of time to do so.

I hope you're blocking flow from the pump on the non-running engine when you're trying to get on plane otherwise you run the risk of ingesting water into the motor at speeds above 15 mph.

My 210 with twin 155's won't get on plane either. If I push it, it just cavitates. I basically have to limp home. I have the 155mm pumps. With 215, you have 159mm pumps, so a bit more thrust. I don't see how these can plane out with just one engine, these are huge boats and need the thrust of both engines to plane. The Challenger is a smaller, lighter boat and I'm sure having the motor centered makes it better. 1900 for challenger vs 2800 for speedster. Plus speedster is longer, giving more wetted area/drag.
 
Same here with 210 twin 155’s. No planing on 1 engine but as jpass points out it’s not something you should do anyway. If you’re down to one engine, go slow & Limp home unless you can clamp your exhaust to the block so it doesn’t fill with water. I put ball valves in line on both of mine instead of clamps with a quick turn of a handle I can turn off one or both for limping home or towing.
 
This may be a dumb question but what hose are you guys pinching or putting a ball valve on? I have the service manual but the picture that they give does not exactly show which hose they are talking about. Are you just putting it on the same hose that comes in through the hull that you hook a water hose to when you run it on land?
 
There are 2 different schools of thought on which hose.

Ideal situation is the 3/4" hose coming from the pump and going into the front underside of the exhaust manifold.

Alternative option is to place it on the smaller hose exiting the exhaust manifold.

I chose the alternative method as the valves are way more visible and easy to access. I preferred them being visible so I can confirm they are open and not run the risk of forgetting I closed one and having an exhaust overheat issue.

The risk of the alternative method is if you have any pinhole leaks in your exhaust manifold, you can still ingest water while towing, albeit at a much slower rate than not being pinched at all.
