Well sold my seadoo gtx and xp bought some 4tec's.. and RXP and RXT. The RXT has a gas shock that is stuck... The previous owner broke the hood mount to get it to close. I purchased a brand new one and seems that this one is difficult to close/open (stuck).

Is this a typical issue? anyone else had this problem, know of a fix, place to look?

Thanks for any help

I purchased the shock new... the mount (top mount on the nose) is broken.. I will have to make a mod for that. The shock is brand new.

The shock is VERY hard,,, I repeat, VERY hard to collapse.

I wrapped mine with a ratchet tie strap an made it about 2 inches shorter. Then I took STRONG wire and wrapped and looped each end. I then released the strap and the shock stopped once the wire got tight. I also unbolted the lower hinge of the hood as in my case, it was like a pivot hinge. I put the shock in, re-bolted the lower hinge, operated the hood to take pressure of the wire I put on the shock, cut the wire and walked away happy.

Unbolt the 2 short bolts and lever the hood back. Its a 2 man job that takes 5mins. You will never compress the gas strut using your hands

I did it by myself, which is why I did the strap and wire trick. With two people and the hood levered back, it will be easier for sure.
