Sea-Doo dealers won't service jet boats?

On behalf of a friend, I called three dealers and discovered they won't touch jet boats if they are not a authorized franchise for Sea-Doo jet boats.

If they have the 4-tec engine they will normally service them. 2-stroke and Mercs they tend to stay away from.

Not sure where you are in Jersey, but you may want to call Smith Marine in New Britain PA. They're my local dealer and have been a ski doo dealer since the early 60's. I see everything brp makes come in and out of there. Worth a try.

Our local Sea Doo dealer will service the Rotax motors but they are careful to say they never had been a Sea Doo boat dealer. They won't turn work away if its something they can fix, really its a 21/23 foot jet ski. I don't understand why a Sea Doo PWC dealer wouldn't want the business, if its all the same parts and they can easily get them why not?? I know my dealer says depending on the year of boat their BUDS system may not work with the boat.

The one PWC dealer told me they can't even connect to the jet boat ECU to program a DESS key.

i'm in north New Jersey and having the same dilemma. They will all service 4tec pwc's, but not a boat. Dealer by me wouldn't even do a simple oil change for me. If I find a place i will let you know. Theres places at the Jersey shore that will service them, but they're closed for the off season

My PWC dealer serviced my Seadoo Jet boat (even though they don't sell jet boats) and ordered the stuff they needed to program a new DESS key for me.
