Sea Doo challenger 787, same engine as the spx 787 waverunner?

My buddy owns a 97 SPX Sea Doo bombardier 787. From what I understand does the challenger have the same engine?

Is there some other kind of modifications to jet boat jets, etc? I've ridden his jetski and I find it hard it would be able to power a jet boat craft loaded with people.

Sorry for my nubbish question!!

Nope... they are basically the same engines.

I understand what you are saying about "Not being able to power it"... but the 800 engine is 110 HP. That's more than enough power to push into the 40 mph mark with a light boat. In a ski... it will be int he upper 50's.

Thank you for the fast response! Gotcha, well I hope with proper maintenance it's a fairly reliable engine... his was always springing problems. I plan on going fairly far out with my jetboat..

Also, without starting a new thread, I read the dual 717s essentially reach the same top speed? Is the difference in acceleration very noticeable? I would love the rear seat but having a hard time finding a 97 speedster.... (then there's the pro/con of having second engine to limp home, and second engine to have parts break...)
