Hello all,

My friend has the above boat that is experiencing some cavitation. The last thing to check is the ride plate and reapplying gasket sealant and we plan on removing it at some point during the winter.

1) Will 7 ounces be enough for this job?

2) Are there any other brands that might be cheaper as the cheapest I have found this is $43 dollars which seems a bit high for 7 ounces?

As always, thank you for any assistance.

My friend's 180 has the same problem. The sealant came out which was revealed with a flashlight in the dark. I'm considering sealing it with super sticky RTV.

I went ahead and bought the loctite above as an Xmas gift because I could not find it anywhere else for cheaper. It was listed as "New Old Stock." The bottle appears to have been unopened but it is listed with an expiration of 2006. I called the company and they advised that as long as the bottle was not pierced/unopened, then it would still be good but obviously they have a vested interest in saying that even if it isn't true. Was this the worst Xmas gift ever or will it likely still be good since the bottle was not opened?

You won't really know until you open it and see. I was working on our bathroom remodel the other day and I needed some clear silicon caulk. I had 3 unopened tubes in the garage. All 3 were bad when I opened them. The silicon was a little thicker than normal and did not flow well out of the tubes. I went out and got new instead.

10 years past expiration is a lot, but you may luck out.

I think that Loctite Black RTV sealant is awesome. You realize this if you ever have to remove it for any reason. Between the 180 Challenger ride plate and pump ring, we might go with RTV that's more persistent. It's a small area with a significant gap that wouldn't be a big problem to peel apart if needed.
