I am almost done with my new engine. I took a closer look at my blown engine and noticed that the pistons are scored. I am trying to figure out what may have caused it, so I don't have any issues with my new engine.
I know the oil pump worked (I would check it and could see the level changing while on the water). I only ran 3/4 tank through the new ski before the engine blew. I think the bearing that supports the counter balancer seized and threw the counter balancer off center which broke through the case. Would that cause the scoring on the piston? The plugs looked to be in good shape, so I don't think it was running lean. What else do I need to troubleshoot to make sure my new engine lasts for years to come?
