Took the Seadoos out of storage and was getting them ready to go in. I have an 93 XP with an SBT motor. When I took the seat off the hull was full of fresh oil. Maybe a line leak over the winter? No such luck. The crankcase of the engine was full of oil to the point it was coming out of the carbs. I know what it is. Those seals inside the crankshaft leaking again. This is the second SBT engine I got with the same problem. The first one was covered under warranty but this one is out of warranty. I use Seadoo oil. what a mess to get running. It runs fine but wow!!!! what allot of smoke and raw oil coming out the exhaust. The old 89 sp ran great. And the 97 XP I bought and thought I got a good deal was not such a great deal. I put another SBT engine in this one to find out the MPEM is bad and VTS is also bad. I sent the MPEM to All-Things-Custom (Mike) thinks he can fix the MPEM but I have not heard from him. If I get it running the VTS I will buy new since they have such a bad track record. I paid $500 for the 97 XP with a one year old single trailer, but now I have $1900 into it and it does not even run. Sometimes I just get tried of working on all of these toys. May be time to sell off some toys.

Customer complaint?...

Wow, I've heard nothing but good from SBT. There are several members who have used them with great success.

When you stored them, where they in a controlled climate or in freezing temps? I know, if you winterize them through fogging, this protective layer is suppose to protect the inside of the engine.

Just strange. I hate to hear of your misfortune.:(

Sbt will probly tell you that you may need to replace part # 290956010 check valve so that they do not have to keep giving you engines. Good luck Robin

Let us know the out come with SBT. We would like to know if they are fair or not. We refer a lot of people to them for replacement engines. In business you can't please everyone...but you should at least try.
Keep us posted on you progress and outcome.

I'm no Seadoo expert, but i have seen this problem before. When I was looking at ski's there was a guy that had the issue. It turned out that the oil was gravity feeding into the engine. He just used to clamp lines during storage to stop the feed. I never purchased the ski, but this just reminded me of it.

Seems to me that a check valve would be the culprit. Oil is being spit out simply because there is too much of it being fed to the motor. I say change the valve, and go from there.

On another note. I had a really fast crash course of Seadoo service after i sank mine this weekend..twice:rofl:

there are two of these check valves one on each injection line I have read from sbt that if one of these check valves stick it acts just like center crankshaft seals are bad. I believe these check valves are only on the older seadoo engines. I do not quite understand how this would cause a oil leak. the only thing that I can come up with is that if one is stuck open that it may allow atmospheric preasure to enter the stuck check valve and allow the other check valve to free flow into the intake. this is only a guess.
