Hi everyone, just thought I would stop in and tell a little about what brought me to the forum....
So a few days ago I picked up a 2000 seadoo GTI.
The hull is in really good shape with the exception of the seats which need recovering.
The trailer is like new with no issues. The bad part of this story is the last owner that had it never used it
and intern it sat outside for around 1 1/2 years, he never checked it so water sat inside the hull which formed corrosion on the motor and carb. But for only $400 I figured I could easily get my money back if its to far gone.
I have already solved the carb issue and so in the next few days I plan on pulling the motor out and tearing into
It to see what it needs, also while its out I will replace all the fuel lines and oil lines plus scrub the inside really good.
I have a good machine shop that will do any necessary work if needed.
I do need to start looking into getting a rebuild kit for the motor which brings me to my next question, can anyone recommend a good place to get an upper and lower motor kit. It doesn't have to be speed parts as I plan on keeping
It stock. I guess another direction would find a good used 720 motor somewhere .
If anyone has suggestions or comments please feel free to chime in...

Thanks

Hi & welcome to the forum.
For all the work and the cost of all the parts you may be better off sending it out to SES, SBT etc.
there are many threads about both....but you are a lot closer to SBT then SES I assume. Some even come with a no-fault 2 yr. warranty.

Good luck and have some fun this Summer.

MODS, you may want to move this to the 2 stroke section for him.

search for SBT online, they sell lowers (crank & CB shaft) and uppers (top end kits) (i'm not a huge fan of sbt's reputation on their crankshafts, but i have no issues at all with their rebuilt CB's and top end cyl exchanges.)
an alternative on sbt's cranks is http://www.shspowersports.com/ i've never ordered from them but i've been told they make a quality OEM rebuild crank.
if you go the sbt route, you can save some shipping delays and expenses by just hopping in the car and picking it up. (clearwater) make a day out of it and visit clearwater beach, have some waterfront lunch, etc....
but first, tear it apart and see what you really need and save the parts, you'll need the cores if you do a parts exchange.
as far as the top end, it can be pricey at retail, its a tad less expensive to just order a piston kit and bore out your cyl's at the machine shop (assuming your comfortable with the shop) I have about 8 machine shops in my county, but there is ONLY ONE that i'll take my cyl's for boring, the other 7? not a fkn chance ! If my shop closes, i'll be searching high and low for a good replacement.

if the crank, cb, cyl's and pistons, head are all bad, the raves are stuck, etc, then a complete engine swap would be my recommendation unless your shop/mechanic really knows what they're doing. personally i'd recommend SBT again, although there are less expensive options out there, there is no substitute for immediate turn around with SBT, and with the warranty (if needed) is easy, just bring in bad engine, get new engine, easy peesy lemon squeezy.

lastly, if your looking for people to ride with... check out soflariders.net, great great group of guy's/gal's, maybe 100 members or more, they ride somewhere almost every weekend, and they are very very established in the south florida area, i'm a member, but I only join up with them on their west coast rides, since i'm too lazy and cheap to tow to the key's and stuff. (they LOVE the keys)
